Newsletter // Spring 2019
Dear Friends of Jeremiah’s Place
I am so excited to bring you our spring newsletter! There is always so much going on at Jeremiah’s Place that we want to share with you! As you may know, April is National Child Abuse Awareness Month, the Month of the Young Child as well as Volunteer Appreciation Month and each of these holds special meaning for us and the work that we do.

As Pittsburgh’s ONLY crisis nursery serving children birth to six years old when their families are experiencing emergency situations or are in need of respite, our work sits firmly at the intersection of keeping children safe and strengthening families. We also recognize that our work is enriched by the amazing and loving volunteers that help us both care for children and serve as ambassadors within the community. We are truly fortunate to have staff, volunteers, board members, donors, funders, and partner agencies that work tirelessly to ensure that we can reach families in need and offer a safe haven for children during difficult times.

While April brought a small setback with the flooding of our center and the week-long closure to restore the facility, we have also celebrated some very special moments including:
  • On March 30th, we celebrated our 5th birthday during the Mt. Lebanon Junior Women’s Club Gala.  As this year’s beneficiary, we were joined by 280 friends and supporters to bring awareness to the importance of our work in the community and to celebrate the impact we have made since 2014.
  • On April 10th, the staff at Jeremiah’s Place was proud to join the Inaugural PA Blue Ribbon Champion for Safe Kids program sponsored by the PA Family Support Alliance. Our very own social worker, Kristen Glass, was the award recipient this year and we couldn’t be prouder.
I hope you enjoy taking a closer look through the newsletter for some more information on what’s happening at JP along with photos, and a few upcoming events that will give you an opportunity to tour our facility, participate in our annual community outreach event, make a contribution to support our work, and much more.

Thank you so much for your support-whether you give of your time, talents or treasures, it means the world to us and especially the children and families we serve.

Happy Spring!

Flood at Jeremiah's Place
Due to unfortunate circumstances, we had plumbing issues on Friday, April 5th that led to flooding of our childcare center. We were closed for about a week to clean and dry out the nursery. Servpro’s Disaster Recovery Team as well as our staff and board worked tirelessly to get us back on our feet. We are so thankful for the amazing people who reached out to us, provided help, and supported us during this difficult week. We had many generous donations which will help us purchase new furniture and other essential items for the children and staff at JP! Because of all the help of so many people, we re-opened on Monday, April 15th!
If you would like to support us as we work to upgrade items around the center, please visit our donation page and put "JP Flood" in the dedication line.

The Jean Hofscher Jere Bear Cave
Earlier this month we welcomed Sue Hofscher in for a tour of Jeremiah's Place, and to show her our new space dedicated to her late mother, Jean Hofscher, who was one of our Jere Bear knitters for many years, and is a family friend of Jeremiah's Place volunteer, Kimmy Philips.  It was a special time to connect with Sue and thank her for the many bears her mother made and the many donations made in her mother's memory. The Hofschers connected with Jeremiah's Place through family friend and JP volunteer, Kimmy Phillips (pictured in bottom right).

Join us on May 7, 2019 to give to the #oneday Critical Needs Alert and help children and families in need! Donations made through this campaign will be matched by the Pittsburgh Foundation, doubling your gift!

Color Your World Gala
The Mt. Lebanon Junior Women's Club held the "Color Your World" benefit gala to support the work of Jeremiah's Place on Saturday, March 30th. It was an amazing event that brought together 280 guests to celebrate the organization's 5th birthday! The event included a silent auction, gift card and wine-pull, photo booth, special remarks from Lori Keener, MLJWC President, Co-Chairs-Shanyn Winnowski & Stephanie Kerby. JP Executive Director, Lisa Perry, along with Board Chair, Susie Chase, thanked the guests and shared more about the work of the organization. A huge thank you to The Mt. Lebanon Junior Women's Club as well as everyone who made this event so successful!

PA Blue Ribbon Champion for Safe Kids
Jeremiah’s Place celebrated our social worker, Kristen Glass on April 10th as the city took the day to bring attention to the issue of child abuse and neglect in our state. Kristen was the recipient of the PA Blue Ribbon Champion for Safe Kids award from the PA Family Support Alliance. We are so proud of Kristen!
