Newsletter // Fall 2018

When I think about the work we do at Jeremiah’s Place and the impact we have been able to have in the lives of over 777 children and 508 families since we opened our doors in 2014, the one word that comes to mind is “grateful.” We could not do this work without the amazing staff and volunteers that care for the children and help us nurture our little ones daily. I am grateful for our board who give so much to ensure that our program and service is meeting the needs of the community. Lastly, I am grateful to our donors - individuals, businesses, churches, and foundations; you help us bring our work to life through your generosity and passion for making a difference in the lives of so many children and families.
During this time of year, as we enter the season of Thanksgiving, I am reminded of this, and it fills my heart with joy!
The mission of Jeremiah’s Place is to protect children, strengthen families and help transform communities. We appreciate the many partners, allies and friends that create our community of care and recognize the importance of creating and sustaining these relationships.
Please take a look at some of the wonderful things we’ve been up to and if you are so moved, feel free to reach out to us about ways that you can become part of the JP community as a volunteer, donor, or supportive friend.

With a Grateful Heart,

Lisa J. Perry

Lunch and Learns

2018 has been the year of pilots for Jeremiah’s Place. In preparation for our fifth-year anniversary, we brainstormed new strategies that would allow us to connect with other service providers in order to better serve their clients. A series of Lunch and Learns is just one of several new and exciting initiatives. The pilot program consists of four Lunch and Learns hosted by our social worker, Kristen Ariel Glass. The goal is to connect with at least ten new service providers to discuss how we can be a resource for their clients. The Lunch and Learn includes a tour of Jeremiah’s Place, an overview of our Strengthening Families Program and services, as well as an opportunity to discuss new ways to partner with social service organizations in the community.
We have hosted three Lunch and Learns with the fourth and final Lunch and Learn of the series occurring on October 11, 2018. So far, we were able to connect with 27 service providers from 15 different agencies to elaborate on our services and how we can assist their consumers. The Lunch and Learns have also resulted in collaborations with other community organizations to develop a partnership allowing us to work together to better serve our community. We have witnessed an increase in scheduled intakes following each Lunch and Learn and recognize the importance of building these relationships with our counterparts. Two providers commented that, “This may be Pittsburgh’s best kept secret,” and “This is an excellent program and more agencies need to learn about these services,” so we are doing our best to spread the word. We are grateful for Pam W. Golden and Pittsburgh Child Guidance Foundation for giving us this opportunity to expand our reach in the community.

In July, we were joined by Sheila Milnes and Meghan Nagle from Three Rivers Adoption Council (TRAC) to teach us about Trust-Based Relational Interventions and Theraplay techniques. These skills will help us as we take care of children who have been through hard things. Because everyone works at different times, we love it when our staff can spend time together!
Jeremiah's Place is honored to be the recipient of the 2019 Mt. Lebanon Junior Women's Club gala at the Children's Museum of Pittsburgh.
