Thank you so much for being a subscriber to my newsletter. In the last few months I finished the mosaic for my mom which is now installed! I also completed a new pet portrait of the cutie, Buster. I did a major overhaul of my website and I was published in a Brazilian magazine. Keep reading to learn more!
This project that has been years in the making is finally complete and can now be viewed by the public in its permanent location, Goleta Valley Cottage Hospital.
The panels, which are four feet high and total six feet wide, are made with stained glass and millefiori. They have been installed in the hospital's nondenominational Sacred Space, available for patients and families of all faiths. The design is of a Jacaranda surrounded by day lilies and was created with love for my mom who passed in 2013. You can read more about my tribute to her in this blog post.
Pet Portrait Commission
This is the tiniest pet portrait I've ever done! It is 4x5" and is of Buster, a handsome 15-year old with the sweetest face. I love the beautiful teal background that the client, a friend of the family, chose. The dental pick in the first photo gives some reference to the size of the glass I cut for the eyes which were so small, required tweezers to glue in place.
The third edition of Mosaico na Rede, a magazine published in Brazil, is now available and there is a lovely article in it about me, my art and my book, The Night Before Christmas. I was contacted last year by the editor, Magaly Floriano, who interviewed me and collected several photos of the mosaic illustrations in the book. The magazine is printed on nice, quality paper and includes many other interesting articles and images of beautiful mosaics throughout. It is printed in Portuguese and English. You can purchase a copy here.
I recently spent several weeks designing a new website with a whole new look. I've never built a website before and I have a new respect for those who do! Lots of work and so many decisions to make. I'm very happy with how it turned out and if you want to take a look at it, you can see it here. Let me know what you think, or if you encounter any issues that need fixing!
Other Art I Enjoy
One of my favorite artists with a fondness for painting cats is Pati Bannister. I love her use of color, composition and pattern, and her way of portraying them with playfulness, curiosity, and mischief. She also works with polymer clay, makes kitty boxes and bookmarks, and sells note cards of her cat paintings (I have most of them!). Find her fabulous work on Flickr and Etsy.
Thank you so much for following along on my artistic journey, and if you think others would be interested in reading about my art, feel free to share my newsletter.
Warm regards, until next time,
