After more than four years of working on it, my book is finally here! I'm so excited to share it with you after keeping it under wraps for so long. I have lots to tell you about it, so read on.
The Night Before Christmas
by Clement C. Moore and illustrated by Christine Brallier

Before I discovered mosaics, I had always wanted to illustrate a children's book, but never felt very confident about my painting abilities. Once I found mosaics, I had this great idea to illustrate a book with my mosaics. I had never seen it done before and I thought, oh this will be so original! I went online to see if anyone had done it, and that is how I found Barb Keith and her children's books illustrated in stained glass mosaics. She had started her own publishing company, Brownian Bee Press, so she could publish her books, and she offered to publish mine when I got around to it. About five years ago on Christmas Eve, my family and I were reading The Night Before Christmas as we always do, when suddenly I thought, "I would love to illustrate this book and personalize it to my family and read IT every year!"
So began the process of designing and creating 15 stained glass mosaics. So much went into it and if you're interested, you can read all of the details on my blog where I've been posting about it from the start, but I do want to share a couple things here that you might find interesting. For those who know my family and I, you will recognize all of us, including our cat, Raymi, in the book. I used previously taken photos of all of us as reference, and had my husband pose for most of the pages he is in. I even had him pose for some of Santa's body positions so I could get them just right. For those of you who already have the book, you will recognize these!
I also included personal items in the book, like my husband's guitar and all of the Christmas decorations, including every ornament on the tree! I also used my previously made mosaics as the wall art in the book. I just took the photos of them and placed them under clear glass.
And with my mother's passing away this past July, I was able to get a dedication to her right before the book went to the printers. So as you can see, this book is very, very personal to me and I'm so proud of it. And now it's here and I can't wait to read it with my family this Christmas Eve!!
I recently held a contest on my Facebook Page and had participants guess the number of millefiori I used in my book. I also gave a book away when I reached 100 books sold. Congratulations to both winners who reside in Georgia! I will give away another book at 200 books sold, so if you'd like to know when I'm getting close to 200, go like my Facebook page to keep up to date.
My Favorite Testimonial So Far (Thanks, Linda!)
"Your use of millie is brilliant, SO CLEVER! I LOVE Raymi, you capture kitties like no other on this planet. And the detail! I'm seeing new stuff peeking out at me every time I look." - Linda M.
I have several book signings coming up, as well as an exhibition of the mosaics, which I am SO excited for! If you can only make it to one book signing, please go to the December event where the mosaics will be hanging. I'm really happy to be sharing my artwork and it will be my first solo exhibition. Here is my schedule:

Sunday, Nov. 24, 2 p.m. - Book signing at Chaucer's Bookstore, 3321 State St. in Santa Barbara, CA.
Thursday, Dec. 5, 5:30-7:30 p.m. - Opening reception for the exhibition of the 15 mosaics in my book. There will be a pajama party reading at 6:15 in the Children's Space and a book signing afterward. If you can't make it to the opening, the mosaics will be on exhibit for the month of December so please go check them out! Granada Books, 1224 State St. in Santa Barbara, CA.
If you're interested in purchasing the book and you can't make it to any of the events, you can find my book (signed by me) on my web site.
Other Artists I Enjoy
After you come see me at Granada Books, go see one of my favorite local artists, Brad Nack. He is having his hugely popular 16th annual 100% Reindeer Art Show Dec. 5, 6-8 p.m. at Roy, 7 W. Carrillo St. in Santa Barbara, CA. If you can't make it to see his fun, colorful, and often crazed reindeer, you can find them for sale online after the show.
Thank you so much for reading my newsletter and if you think others would be interested in reading it, feel free to pass it on.
Warm regards, until next time,
