November 2014

Dear Friend,

Thank you so much for being a subscriber to my newsletter.  I am happy to know you are interested in what I am creating.  I am keeping very busy as the holidays approach, with several mosaic projects as well as promoting my book.

New Work

This is my latest commission, an 8x10" portrait of Hamish, who recently passed away. The mosaic resides with Isabelle in the U.K. and when she received it, she wrote me that when the light shines on the eyes they twinkle and make her smile, and that makes 'me' smile.  You can see how I worked on him in my blog post.

My Christmas Book

In September there was this nice little mention of my book in the Stained Glass News, "a full-color newspaper which has been dedicated to informing, entertaining and inspiring stained glass hobbyists for over 25 years."  They are distributed throughout the U.S., Canada, England and New Zealand, and it was pretty neat to pick up my own copy at my local stained glass store.  To find a distributor in your area or to order back issues, visit their web site.

I have a couple of book events coming up during the holidays.  The first is a book signing with another local children's book author/illustrator, Carol Heyer, at Mrs. Figs Bookworm in Camarillo, Saturday, Dec. 6, 2-4 p.m.  There will be pages to color from Carol's book, and I will have a paper mosaic Christmas tree activity set up.  Also plan to visit Santa's Workshop in the Las Posas Plaza from 10-4 (Santa eats lunch from 1-2).  I'm very excited about this event!

One of my favorite pages from my book, my husband Greg getting a new guitar while Raymi greets Santa.  Also, one of Carol Heyer's beautifully illustrated Christmas books.

On Sunday, December 21, I will be back at Granada Books to participate in their Festival of Lights celebration for all of the holidays.  It's the longest night of the year and they will be open until midnight.  I will be reading my book at 11 a.m. and will have a couple of my mosaics from the book displayed in the children's section. Should be quite festive!

I now have postcards available for sale of these two images from my book.  They come in packs of ten and can be purchased with my book on my web site, here.  They are blank on the back and are perfect to send a Christmas greeting.

And some exciting news - my friend, Barb Keith, has just released her third children's book illustrated with her stained glass mosaics, I Love You to Pieces!  It is adorable and so creative, as are all of her books. For November and December, we are offering a holiday package, one of each of our books for $32 (over 25% off the retail value of $43), so if you've been wanting to get them all, now is a good time!

Cottage Hospital Update

I've finally begun my project for Goleta Valley Cottage Hospital!  It is three panels depicting a jacaranda and day lilies, inspired by my late mother, and will be installed in the hospital's sacred space.  Mom's cat, Red, is a constant companion while I work.

Other News
I am beginning a new project, a 20x30" mosaic for a children's hospital in California with a desert theme.  Design and progress photos to come in my next newsletter!

Other Art I Enjoy

I thought I'd end with some of my favorite art from Barb Keith's three books.  Her art is playful, happy, colorful, and beautifully done.  I can't wait to see her next book!

Thank you so much for following along on my artistic journey, and if you think others would be interested in reading about my art, feel free to share my newsletter.

Warm regards, until next time,
