Introducing the
Joint Council / Voice Action Plan Committee

AUSU just formed an ad hoc committee to create an action plan for improving The Voice Magazine and increasing readership. You can read the terms of reference for the committee online here

A call for AUSU members at large to apply for the committee seats was put out in June. We are pleased to welcome members Bonita Arbeau, Lyle Harvey, Carla Knipe, Alex Pappas, and Lisa Sinclair to the committee.

The committee will also consist of the Voice Editor in Chief/Executive Director Sarah Cornett, Voice Editor Karl Low, and AUSU Councillor Scott Jacobsen. The committee work will begin immediately to start preparing a report to council for The Voice action plan. If you have any questions, please email ausu@ausu.org.
Student Spotlight - Shawn Stanley

AU student Shawn Stanley recently won an AUSU Academic Achievement Award! Congratulations on your accomplishment, Shawn!

“I started taking AU courses in 2004 while serving in the Canadian Army. Since then I’ve completed a marketing diploma from College of the Rockies (Cranbrook, BC), and am now almost done my business degree with AU. Last year I was on one of AU’s Corporate Governance Business Case Competition teams, my team won 3rd place and $2000.  I recently started a new job selling industrial ventilation, filtration, and conveying systems in the Vancouver, BC area. The courses I’ve taken with AU have helped me gain many valuable perspectives – I’ll never look at the world the same again.” - Shawn Stanley

Athabasca University Budget 2016/2017

Athabasca University just posted a message to students about the 2016/17 AU budget. AU's financial difficulties are no secret with a $3.3 million dollar deficit budget, but the message from the Interim AU President, Peter MacKinnon, ends on a positive note, stating "Our challenges are serious and immediate, but I am confident that they will be met. I know AU has the full support of government, our students and our community. Together, we will see our way through this difficult time and put the university on course toward a bright future." Read the full story online here

The Alberta Minister of Advanced Education has also expressed that "the government is committed to Athabasca University". You can read up on this in The Voice Magazine here!
