12:00 PM–1:00 PM
Hurlburt Auditorium, St. Paul's Hospital

Abstract: Animal and clinical research over the last 20 years has indicated a complex and widely unexplored interaction between iron deficiency, intractable insomnia, neuropsychiatric challenges and prenatal alcohol exposure (PAE). Iron deficiency is the most common nutritional deficiency of pregnancy, and PAE the most common known cause of developmental disability in the developed world. Recent studies have shown that iron deficiency is a potent and synergistic modifier of PAE.

This panel will present findings from clinical and neuroimaging studies which suggest a critical need to improve our understanding of the complex relationship between PAE, iron deficiency, insomnia, and other symptoms of brain-based disability. We will also present plans for using app technology to track, analyse, and improve treatment of this constellation of challenges.

This talk is open and will include a light lunch. It is part of our Work in Progress Seminar Series.
