Project Gaia Presents at the Official Launch of Nigerian Global Alliance for Clean Cookstoves 

 

The Nigerian Alliance for Clean Cookstoves (NACC) is part of the global effort to improve access to clean cooking technology and fuels, focusing on the 90 million Nigerians that depend on polluting solid biomass fuels each day. The launch took place in Abuja on 20 March 2012.  

The keynote address was presented by Radha Muthiah, Executive Director of the Washington DC - based Global Alliance for CleanCookstoves. Other speakers included the Ministers of Women Affairs, the Environment, and Health. Project Gaia Nigeria Director Mr. Joe Obueh attended as a cookstove Implenting Partner, and was accompanied by a group comprising of ethanol consultants, producers, entrepreneurs and Government officials dedicated to brining clean alcohol fuels to Nigeria.

Mr. Joe Obueh presented on the vertically integrated strategy of microdistilleries plus stoves which PGI’s is successfully implementing in Ethiopia, Nigeria and Haiti to address the issues of ethanol availability and sustainability.  Project Gaia is currently working in Nigeria to facilitate a community-owned efficient microdistillery (EMD) project to produce ethanol for cooking from cassava and discarded cashew fruit. Project Gaia Team Presents at the 13th World Congress on Public Health, Addis Ababa Ethiopia 

A team of Project Gaia colleagues and partners will present the session "Reducing the Burden of Indoor Air Pollution," on April 27, 2012 at the 13th World Congress on Public Health. The teams includes Wubshet Tadele, Managing Director of Gaia Association, Fiona Lambe, Research Fellow at SEI, Kirstie Jagoe, Independent Household Energy Consultant, Megan Graham, Researcher at University of Georgia, and Dr. Abera Kumie of Addis Ababa University.  The diverse presenting team has conducted and participated in some of the leading research on Indoor Air Quality and stove design and adoption. Project Gaia Executive Director Harry Stokes Selected As A Final Nominee for the 2012 World Bioenergy Award  


PGI Executive Director Harry Stokes has joined the Finalist Nominees for The  2012 World Bioenergy Award. Each year, this award is granted to a business leader, politician or researcher who in a crucial way has furthered the development of the bioenergy sector. Harry was also honored as a Finalist in the 2010 World Bioenergy Exhibition. Harry Stokes has been recognized by World Bioenergy for his dedication to advancing global access to alcohol fuels, and making clean, sustainable energy available to all households that struggle to cook a daily meal.  

Harry will present Project Gaia's work with ethanol stoves and fuel at the Conference and Exhibition for Biomass and Energy, May 29-31 in Jonkoping Sweden. Click
