What's New In 2012?


HRH Prince Charles and the King of Sweden Make Tea with the CleanCook Stove 

Fiona Lambe, Research Fellow at the Stockholm Environmental Institute (SEI) and former Regional Consultant for Project Gaia met with HRH Prince Charles and Carl XVI Gustaf, King of Sweden on Friday March 23 to discuss the SEI/Gaia Association renewable energy project “Fuel from Waste” funded by the Nordic Climate Fund.  The stove demonstration and follow-up discussion occurred in lieu of a round table seminar on sustainable development hosted by SEI. The Gaia “Fuel from Waste” project is one of the field-based and tangible projects currently being carried out by SEI. 




Gaia Association Wins Second Energy Globe Award for Ethiopia

The Gaia Association/UNHCR Ethanol Stoves and Fuel Distribution Program in Kebribeyah and Awbarre UNHCR Refugee Camps was selected as a National Energy Globe Award recipient for 2011.  Gaia Association, under the leadership of Managing Director Wubshet Tadele, competed among 1,175 projects from 115 countries in the 2011 Energy Globe competition. Gaia Association was selected by an international jury chaired by Indian politician and environmentalist Maneka Gandhi. Gaia Association will receive this year’s award at an official ceremony in Addis Ababa, from an Energy Globe representative.
 
Gaia Association and other Energy Globe winners will be officially presented at the 2012 UN World Environment Day, June 5 2012, at the Energy Globe Online Portal.





Project Gaia joins 1% for the Planet 

In March 2012, Project Gaia joined a network of over 2,700 nonprofit organizations doing great work to help the planet. Started in 2002 by Yvon Chouinard, founder and owner of Patagonia, and Craig Mathews, owner of Blue Ribbon Flies, 1% for the Planet is a growing global movement of over 1,350 member companies in 43 countries that donate one percent of their sales to environmental organizations worldwide.
