WaterFire Providence Announces Details for the October 1st Full Lighting and Welcomes the Return of The Flames of Hope: A Celebration of Life™

PROVIDENCE, RI - WaterFire Providence is excited to announce the details for the next full lighting on Saturday, October 1st, 2016. The full lighting is sponsored by the Gloria Gemma Breast Cancer Resource Foundation and Lifetime Medical. Sunset is at 6:26 p.m. The fires will be lit shortly thereafter and burn until midnight. The lighting will be kicked off by a 150-person torch procession leading into a Ring of Fire.
 
The Flames of Hope: A Celebration of Life™ event includes educational and awareness activities for survivors and their families from the afternoon into the evening in Station Park. Kicking off the evening portion of the event will be the Illuminations of Life tribute on the steps of the State House followed by a procession of torch bearers walking down to Waterplace Basin which will include performances and the lighting of the braziers.
 
The Flames of Hope: A Celebration of Life™ WaterFire is  part of a weekend long celebration of the hope, strength, determination and courage all of those battling breast cancer and their friends and family show each and every day. Starting at 8:00 am on Saturday at the Omni Providence Downtown Flames of Hope: A Celebration of Life™ will offer a resource fair featuring 50+ vendors offering health, wellness and cancer care information. At 3:00 pm the Celebration Village in Station Park will come to life with performances and interactive activities followed by a Pink Party until midnight. The cast of QUEEN BOUDICCA a Metal Opera, Composed by Robert E. Schlink, will perform selections from the piece using only ancient Celtic instruments such as the Warrior’s Lyre and the Carnyx War Trumpet. Performances will have from 7:00 – 10:00 p.m. at Citizens Plaza on Steeple Street and along the riverwalk Washington and College Streets (RISD campus).
 
Power up with National Grid! National Grid charging stations will be located throughout the event on October 1st. Stop by and charge up your smart phones and other electronic devices so that you can capture all of the incredible sights at WaterFire.
 
The WaterFire Arts Festival Plaza, in partnership with Bryce Studio, will be located on
Washington Street and Steeple Street from 6:00 p.m. - 10:30 p.m. This outdoor artisan fair will showcase some of the great artwork created in Rhode Island in mediums such as glass, photography, sculpture, jewelry and more. The WaterFire Arts Festival Plaza will offer visitors the opportunity to purchase artwork by Rhode Island-based artists.
 
WaterFire’s favorite characters are back for another enchanting evening.
  • TEN31 Productions returns with their interactive living statues and gargoyles in Memorial Park at the World War 1 Monument shortly after lighting.
  • Origami Master Andrew Anselmo will delight crowds of all ages near the RISD auditorium.
  • Catch mime artist Michael Grando in costume as the Commedia dell’arte character Pierrot, as he cruises the river tossing carnations to visitors along the shore.
  • Fire spinners Julia Jerome and Benjamin Reynolds will dazzle you with their breathtaking performances throughout the night.
 
Become part of the art and add your light to the night in the Starry Starry Night Installation in Memorial Park where you can wish upon a star or write your own personal dedication on a luminaria candle lantern. Visit the WaterFire Merchandise Store at Canal and Steeple Streets and mini merchandise and donations stations throughout the installation.
 
The final full lighting of WaterFire Providence for the 2016 season will be the WaterFire Salute to Veterans on November 5th.
