Message to the Staff, Rina's Resources, News, Our Employees of the Month, Meet Our HR Team and OT Tips plus Birthdays and Anniversaries!

Greetings From Helen

Happy Thanksgiving!!!!

Al and I drove to Oakland to spend Thanksgiving with our children and grandchildren.  We ate outdoors and maintained our distances.  We wore masks and we tried to maintain most of the safety features.  The drive up the 5 and  the drive down the 101 were swift. I personally enjoy driving and love the views off the 101 and even the 5.  In spring when the almond trees are blooming on the 5, it is absolutely beautiful.

Right now I am back in Oxnard and it is a beautiful day.  I am looking at the blue ocean and the Channel Islands.  The view is crystal clear and the best!  If you can avoid large crowds, come to the beach and just sit and watch the waves go in and out.  As for me, I forget the negative happening and focus on the beauty of the place.

Some of you have written to share your Thanksgiving events and wishes with me.  I am very grateful for your kindness.  Thank you!!!

Sadly, it appears that Covid is back with a vengeance and due to the numbers of Covid cases, we are decreasing, but not totally eliminating our person to person contact.  Everyone will be notified by your programs as to our proposed changes.

You are all missed, and we are currently planning some festivities around our winter break!  Stay tuned!  Meanwhile, wear your masks.  Maintain distances and wash your hands, frequently!

Stay healthy and happy!
Helen
Keep Up With What's New!

Rina's Resources

As we approach our 10 month of this pandemic, I am still looking for virtual resources! Here is a great link to many games and tools to use during therapy! You can find activities here for all ages and disorders. There are also tons of things that don't have to be for speech and can be used in other therapy!

Pragmatics and social skills are one of the toughest skills to help develop during these times, but also remain SO important! Social thinking has some great free webinars - check them out!

Sylvia Agtual

Speech November Employee of the Month!!!

What do you enjoy most about the speech therapy field? I know you have a lot of experience and years in this job so that will be a hard one to answer!
What I love most about the speech therapy field is the ability to help people find the words to communicate and get their needs met so they can enjoy their life to the fullest.

What has been your favorite virtual tool during this pandemic while we are virtual?
I have two favorite tools during this pandemic that I use daily the first being Boom cards and the second being YouTube.  I find both to be engaging and up to date fun for kids of all ages.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
Outside of work I love spending time with my family.

Thank you Sylvia for all your hard work!

Treatment Session Tips From

Dr. Baily Zubel, OTD, OTR/L
I don't know about you, but I find more boxes from online orders at my house these days. What better way to repurpose those empty Amazon boxes than use them as part of therapy?

You can use a pushpin, scissors, or a hole punch to work on fine motor strengthening. Using cardboard adds more resistance for additional feedback to the muscles and joints! Pushpins are easier to use than scissors and a holepunch.

Once your turkey is ready to go, you can take a shoelace and incorporate additional visual motor integration skills by lacing! It's easy to upgrade the task by writing a letter, number, or combination of both next to the holes for your client to sequence!
