Pars United are extremely pleased to announce that formal control of Dunfermline Athletic Football Club (DAFC) has now been acquired from BDO LLP, following completion of all of the relevant legal agreements.

The group has been supported through its campaign by Supporters Direct Scotland (SDS) and Paul Goodwin Head of SDS said, “We’re delighted to see that another famous Club has embraced a community ownership model, inspired by the dedication of all the Pars fans. We know that there are other clubs and fan groups looking very closely at greater community involvement as the ownership of clubs in Scotland evolves away from the conventional benefactor model.”

The Club can now proceed towards coming out of administration, and papers will be provided to the Court of Session to conclude the statutory requirements.

In addition, at the same time, Pars United (EEP Limited) has acquired East End Park, from administrators KPMG.  This is in line with the stated aim and strategy of Pars United to ensure that DAFC continues to play matches at our spiritual home.

Bob Garmory has been appointed Chairman, and will be joined by Ian Hunter, Jim Leishman, Kip McBay, Craig McWhirter and Margaret Ross.  The interim board will assess the exact resource required within the Club in order to manage it day to day at its current level of professional football. In the remaining course of the season, it will also be able to assess fully the workings of the Club and any additional measures which are required to enhance and secure the future of DAFC.

SUPPORTERS DIRECT SCOTLAND RECEIVE FUNDING TO TACKLE SECTARIANISM IN COMMUNITIES

On Monday 16th September the Scottish Minister of Community Safety, Rosanna Cunningham MSP officially announced that Supporters Direct Scotland have been awarded funding for the “Just The Colour Of Our Scarves” project which will bring in additional funding of around £145,000 over the next two years.

We'll be delivering a photography exhibition highlighting the fact there is more that unites us as football fans, whilst working in association with parters to deliver anti-sectarianism workshops and curriculum based programmes within communities.

Mark Reid, Supporters Direct Scotland's Project Manager said "We at Supporters Direct Scotland are delighted to be given the opportunity to assist in addressing the issue of sectarianism within Scotland. We hope to use football as a vehicle and platform through our series of workshops, events and exhibitions to address the issue. Along with our key partners we hope to contribute in a positive and meaningful way to make communities in Scotland more inclusive understanding and tolerate".

CAN YOU HELP US WITH RESEARCH INTO SUPPORTERS AND GOVERNANCE?

We're doing some work with Loughborough University who are looking at the role of supporters in football governance. Fans are taking part in the research, and Loughborough have already had one phase of 20 supporters from different clubs across England, Wales and Scotland. They're are now looking to recruit more fans to take part in the second stage, which will be done simultaneously in the UK, Spain, Poland, Turkey, France and Germany, to give some European comparisons.

If this sounds of interest and you'd like to learn more, please see their ‘call for participants’ document which also has a two page information sheet which details what they're asking fans to do. In brief, they'd would like fans to take pictures and keep a short (written/audio) diary for 4 weeks, showing and telling them about their football-related activities.
BUILD A WINNING CLUB

Having been part of the sporting landscape for more than 10 years Supporters Direct is proud to launch a sister operation, SD Club Development, to share the knowledge and experience of what it takes to succeed as a sports club – from amateur to professional.

Please make sure you browse through our new site in particular the services we could offer your club – from coordinating a share issue to getting your Club ready for asset transfer, and plenty in between.

If you are new to SD then a good starting point would be to have a read of some of our research or testimonials from some of the Clubs we have worked with in the past. The network of community owned Clubs continues to grow, providing an incredible resource for Clubs who all buy into the same principles and SDCD arrange network events to bring the Clubs together to discuss collaborative projects and share good ideas.
