Welcome to Bendy Bytes!
August Neighbourhood Sundowner
First up, a big thanks goes out to all who attended the Bend in the Road’s Neighbourhood Sundowner on Friday August 30. Your collective presence created an exciting community buzz. Thanks also to the awesome host Dunn and Walton for providing that delicious food and a cosy venue, to the City of Stirling (CoS) for sponsoring the event and to WA Cleanskins for the discounted beverages.
Watch this space for the next Bend in the Road
Neighbourhood Sundowner!
So what does ‘Bend in the Road’ actually mean?
Physically speaking the Bend in the Road (or more simply ‘The Bend’) is the stretch of Scarborough Beach Road through Doubleview and Scarborough from St Bridget Tce to the east and Duke St to the west.
The Bend in the Road Inc. is a local community organisation with a vision to transform The Bend into a place that is colourful, quirky and buzzing. Using a ‘strengths-based’ approach to build on attributes like the area’s relaxed coastal vibe and growing number of independent small businesses, we (of The Bend in the Road Inc.) want to redefine the patch as somewhere locals and visitors seek out and are surprised and delighted by what they find.
In addition to this grand vision, we aim to ensure the coordinated redevelopment as set out by the CoS Scarborough Beach Road West Activity Corridor Strategy. This strategy sets the groundwork for a physical transformation of The Bend from a car-dominated transport corridor into a place for people to live, work and play.

Judges from the Bend in the Road Inc., Doubleview House, Scarborough’s Art Space Collective and City of Stirling have the difficult task of choosing the winners. What’s in the plan?
Bend in the Road Inc. has a lot of exciting projects and events in the pipeline both for the short term and into the next few years. See our strategic plan to get your head around some of these ideas.
One of the events for early next year is an Eco-market which will be undertaken in partnership with Transitions Towns Stirling and the Scarborough/Doubleview Being Neighbourly community on the grounds surrounding the Guildercliffe/ Westview St shopping strip.

While we wait for the Eco-market day to arrive why not join in on a bit of pole painting on the weekend of Nov 2 and 3. The Bend is about to come aliv e with colourful power poles. Western Power tells us it's a first! If you would like to help splash some colour along The Bend send an email to bend@thebend.net.
Would you like to help make The Bend a lovely and lively place to live or visit? Whether it’s for specific events like the Eco-Market or pole painting or for ongoing projects we would love for you to join in on the action. Please express your particular volunteer interests here or pop along to the AGM to hear more.
Looking forward to seeing you again soon!
