Prairie Celebrates Chinese New Year

Celebrating Chinese New Year is one of the ways our school embraces its Inclusivity Statement: "The Prairie School is a community of students, faculty, and families who care for and respect one another, celebrating both our differences and commonalities...Beyond multicultural personal identities, The Prairie School embraces diversity of thought and culture." As a community, our Chinese New Year Buddy Activity is one way we try to hold those words to the light.

Our all-school celebration will take place during Buddy Activity time on Tuesday, February 4th. Students will be creating red lanterns, which will hang in the lunchroom. A Chinese themed lunch will be served during regular lunch periods.

You've probably noticed these signs outside classrooms and offices across campus. Many faculty spark conversations about literature by keeping their latest read on display!

Time to check in with campus tastemakers and see what they're reading with "Introduce Your Shelf." First up: Theatre Director Dena Roncone!

Primary School
The Week That Was
Service is central to the work all Primary School students do as part of Student Council. For the past three months, they have focused their efforts to help Racine Habitat for Humanity, creating art pieces to be hung in the homes Habitat is building around our community. Today, students presented their artwork to our Habitat friends! We hope the images make families smile and feel comfortable in their new homes.

Middle School

The Week That Was
Six MS students were recognized for their achievement in writing this week through the
Scholastic Art & Writing Awards.
Middle school and high school writers from Southeastern Wisconsin submitted their writing in January, to be judged by a panel of creative professionals. The following students were honored, from right to left, Michael Babu earned Honorable Mention; Silver Keys went to Ajay Trivedi, Emmett Santalucia, Shritha Reddy, and Stevan Dobrev; and Caroline Berkey won a Gold Key, meaning her short story will go on the be judged at the national level.

Nine students competed in front of their peers to represent Prairie in the National Geographic Geography Bee — and we named our school champion! Congratulations to Rohan Peddamallu who will compete next in an online state test, in attempt to earn a spot in the national competition. Thanks to all who participated: Victor Angeline, Matthew Chadwick, Antonio Kulig, William Schaefer, Nick Anderson, Lily Jorgensen, Salisia Servantez, and Ayman Ajmeri.

The Science Olympiad team traveled to UW-Milwaukee last week to participate in Regionals. All 12 members of Prairie's Varsity team brought home at least one piece of hardware. Of particular note, Prairie took 1st place in Code Busters, Wright Stuff, Ping Pong Parachute, and Dynamic Planet. The team will be moving on to State in April, following two more competitions this winter. Additionally, two members of our JV team (Abby Wagner '22 and Luci Ellis '22) earned medals in both Mystery Design and Ornithology — in competition against teams at both levels! Click here to view all results. Congratulations to the team — and good luck preparing for State!
