e-Bulletin - March 2021

Welcome to the Parish Council’s e-Bulletin
Fair Oak Parish Council’s e-Bulletin is designed to provide an up to the minute snapshot of current news, reports, developments, opportunities, and events of interest to our residents.

We hope that the e-bulletin will be viewed as a key resource, fully engaging our residents and driving activities at a community level.

Deliberately short and snappy, the bulletin is provided in electronic format with web links to access further information and downloadable material. The e-bulletin is emailed monthly to all residents who have signed up to receive the bulletins. Older editions of the e-bulletin are also available here.

Fair Oak Cemetery
At the Full Council meeting in March, Members approved the revised Fair Oak Cemetery Rules & Regulations, which were last reviewed June 2017.  Also, guidelines including “questions and answers” are published on our website to show clear transparency of the Council’s procedures.  View here
Fountain Cafe
The Council’s Task & Finish Group presented initial findings to the Full Council in February 2020. At this meeting, members indicated their support for the establishment of a café and asked the Clerk (and the Group) to work up more detailed proposals including the suggestion that the café be sited on the Shorts Road site, occupied by the Scout Hut. Since then meetings have taken place and the group have developed a proposal and way forward for the Council to consider.  To find out more click here

Public Art – walking tour
If you are stuck for something to do during lock-down, why not go on a walking tour around Fair Oak and Horton Heath and see all the Public Art in our villages. Our thanks go to Cllr Colin Bird and his wife Ros for producing the information and photos.

Spring Trail
We had such positive feedback from residents on our Christmas hunt trail that we’ve got something up our sleeves for the spring school holiday at Knowle Park.

For more information please have a look on the Council’s website and Facebook page in the coming days.

Parish History
The current Parish of Fair Oak and Horton Heath was formed in 1894 and consisted of 1680 acres.  Previously most of the Parish had been Stoke Park - now Bishopstoke. In 1929 there was a proposal to amalgamate the two parishes - Col Haig the chair of Stoke Park Parish said, "the advantages of amalgamating with Fair Oak are nil"!  In 1931 parts of Stoke Park did join us, the rest going to Eastleigh.  Fair Oak declined Stoke Park Woods because of the cost of having to deal with all the forest fires there in the summer!

Copies of “The History of Fair Oak and Horton Heath” book, published by Helen Douglas, are available to purchase.  Click here for more details
