A Better Life for Patricia and Jeremy

A Better Life. That’s what Patricia* hoped for 15 years ago when she spent her first Christmas as a teen in a foster home. Nine years later, it’s what she wanted for her baby son after enrolling in ChildServ’s Parent Empowerment Program (PEP). She could tell he was struggling, and she needed support to get him back on track.

Patricia is someone who never gives up. She didn’t give up on her dreams when she became a youth in care; she didn’t give up on her education when she became a young
mother; and she didn’t give up on her son when he showed a learning delay.

Patricia worked with her parent educator at ChildServ to create a plan to get Jeremy* ready for
kindergarten, and find childcare when she needed to be in college. She and Jeremy graduated from PEP, and went on to complete ChildServ’s early childhood program for children ages 3 to 5.

A Better Life. That’s what Patricia and Jeremy have this December. Jeremy attends elementary school with an individual education plan, and Patricia remains involved in his learning. Patricia just completed her master’s degree in social work and works at a local nonprofit.  We’re inspired by what they have accomplished.

I invite you to partner with ChildServ this season to create
a Better Life for families like Patricia and Jeremy. For every $200 we raise, a family receives a month of early childhood support, including regular visits from a home educator and support to create a safe, nurturing environment.

$200 will make a major impact. Studies by Harvard University and our own University of Chicago show that every $1 invested in early learning brings about $8.60 in long-term community benefits.

At ChildServ, we believe every child deserves
a Better Life. You can help make this possible. Please consider making a gift to ChildServ this season through our website: www.childserv.org.

Chapin Coffee partnership

Earlier this year, ChildServ announced a new partnership with Chapin Coffee, a socially-conscious, Chicago-based coffee company, to create our A Better Life Coffee Collection.

With each bag sold, 10% of the proceeds benefit the children and families in our care, and a meal is delivered to a malnourished child in the coffee-growing community of Santiago Atitlan, Guatemala.

For information on purchasing our A Better Life Coffee Collection, please contact Michael Mills, Manager of Corporate Engagement, at mmills@childserv.org or call (773) 867-7335.

Juvenile Justice Info Session

On October 6, ChildServ held an information session for those interested in learning more about our new Juvenile Justice Foster Care (JJFC) program, which helps dually-involved youth - those in the juvenile justice and child welfare systems - to reach their potential by providing a safe, nurturing home.

The event was a great success with ten individuals looking to see how they could make a difference in the lives of the youth in our care.

If you are interested in learning more about how you can help a youth to build a better life as a foster parent in our JJFC program, please contact us at (773) 239-8094 or info@childserv.org.

Dan's visit to the Naperville Kiwanis Club

In late October, our President and CEO Dan Kotowski spoke at Naperville Evening Kiwanis Club's weekly meeting, re-introducing the agency.

He talked the great work being done to help the young women in our Naperville group home to continue their education and become
empoweredadults, and discussed ways that the Kiwanis Club could get involved in building better lives for our youth.

We would like to thank the Naperville Evening Kiwanis Club for their invitation and look forward to working with them in the future!
