Updates!

With the unexpected resignations of our club President and Treasurer, we voted to make interim officer appointments at our September meeting. Those appointed will serve out the duration of the term, through December 2016.

Joshua Babb, N6JAB, our sitting Vice President, became President, replacing Ford Willman, who resigned.
Vice President: Jim Charboneau, KC1BB was appointed to fill Josh's vacated position.
Treasurer: Heather Canevit, KG7MUY, was appointed to replace Steve Ruggles, who resigned.

We wish to thank both Ford and Steve for their service to the club, and wish them the best!!!
It's Election Season at MARA!

2017 Annual club membership dues are now payable. They are due on January 1, 2017.  Check the website to renew online, via PayPal.
MARA Repeater Update

Earlier this year, the 2-meter MARA repeater was taken off the air at the Central AZ College (CAC) Maricopa campus.  We are currently working with the college to sign a new agreement that will put the repeater back on the air!

Also the club has signed an agreement with Thunderbird Farms to install a repeater on their new water tank in Hidden Valley.  This repeater should be on the air by the end of the year, hopefully!

Currently, the 2-Meter repeater is on the air, at a user's QTH, until it can go back up on the CAC tower.

Until we can get our repeaters back on the air, we are utilizing the Sacaton repeater (447.725 100.0Hz)  for primary operations.
Antenna Building 101

Are you interested in building an antenna, from start to finish?  The Technical Committee will be designing and building a 4-bay antenna during CopaFest 2016.

The antenna will be a 4-bay dipole made with items we can get at local stores (Radio Shack, True Value, etc). It basically comes down to the following.
  • A 10' TV mast from Radio Shack.
  • Copper pipe.
  • PVC & end caps that will cover the copper pipe and that will act as mounts to the mast.
  • Hose clamps.
  • 75 ohm (flooded) coax.
Contact Curt, NA7CS for more information!
The next MARA meeting is scheduled for October 22. However, that is the second day of CopaFest 2016.  Please watch the website and online forum, for more details about the October meeting.
The best meetings occur after the Official Business is all done!
Have you ever wanted to get involved in the Public Service aspect of Amateur Radio?

The Maricopa County Emergency Communications Group is an informal collection of hams who emphasize scheduled public service events as a means to tactical radio proficiency. They provide Amateur Radio support and communications for over 20+ events every year.

It's a great way to get out there and get more confident in using that radio you have in your car, or attached to your belt.  You're giving back to the community, and fulfilling one of the goals of Amateur Radio:

Recognition and enhancement of the value of the amateur service to the public as a voluntary noncommercial communication service, particularly with respect to providing emergency communications. (47 CFR 97.1(a))
