SUPPORT AHED TAMIMI
Ahed Tamimi, the sixteen-year-old Palestinian girl who has become a symbol of Palestine's resistance, was detained by the state of Israel on December 19th after a video showing her confronting and slapping two Israeli soldiers in her village of Nabi Sales went viral. The incident occurred after Ahed's 15 year old cousin had been shot in the face with rubber bullets at point blank rage by Israeli forces.
As reported in The Guardian, “some anti-occupation activists have sought to compare Ahed to Malala Yousafzai or have referred to her as the West Bank’s Joan of Arc, celebrating her as a youthful symbol of “Palestinian resistance”.
Ahed has now been indicted on twelve charges by the Israeli government and remains in detention awaiting trial which will be in a military court, as with all other trials in the Occupied Territories. It is worth noting that Human Rights Watch reports a near-100 percent conviction rate against Palestinians in Israeli military tribunals.
We encourage you to write to Ahed as often as you can during her incarceration and remind her that the world is watching and that she is not forgotten. Letters can be sent to:
