Morgan's Musings

I doubt it will come as a surprise to any of you that I love fall, and Halloween especially. I'm a horror fan at heart and spooky season is my favorite time of year. It also ends with Thanksgiving, which is my second favorite holiday. I love the food! (Yup, I'm a Taurus alright.) I especially love fall in Georgia, because it cools down and gets less humid. We get some cool nights that are perfect for reading a good book or baking cookies. Or both!

I had a rough few weeks this past month, as an anniversary of a friend's death made me spiral into depression for a while. Luckily, I have an incredible support group in my friends, family, and medical professionals, so I feel a lot better. That's one of the things about Major Depressive Disorder, though. Even when you're doing everything right, you can have bad days. It's important to remember that's okay. We can always try again tomorrow.

My friend Crissy and I are trying to submit to as many cool sounding anthology calls as we can without burning out. We've got 4 or 5 that have deadlines coming up in the next 3 months, so I've been working on new short stories for these. It's been a lot of work, but fun too! If people are interested I might post some snippets in here.

Another thing that happened this month is that Facebook figured out I'm a witch. The algorithm is now bombarding me with adds for essential oils, cute black boots, and other witchy apparel and accoutrements. I don't mind, really, except if I bought everything I wanted, I'd have to go on a water-only diet!

Now, without further ado, I'll announce the winner of last month's raffle:

Blaine Hall

Congratulations! I hope you enjoy your gift card and get something that makes you smile. Huge hugs back to you!

Didn't win? Don't worry, there's another chance every month!

How to enter: Respond to this email and tell me what your favorite scary movie is! A winner will be chosen at random and sent a $10 Amazon Gift Card.

What's new this month: I've gotten two rejections on the stories I sent out, but that leaves 8 I still haven't heard back on. Fingers are still crossed!

In my MFA program, I finished two classes: Finding & Reaching an Audience (hey that's you!) and Speculative Fiction Writing II. A's in both so yay! Now on to more business classes.

What I'm reading: I just finished These Toxic Things by Rachel Howzell Hall. It's so atmospheric and creepy with plenty of fun twists and turns. I definitely recommend it!

I also managed to get my hands on this Humble Bundle, which netted me 24 books on witchery and magic for just $25! And part of that money goes to charity! I am very stoked to get into these books.

What I'm watching: It's spooky season AKA my favorite time of year! We binged Mike Flanagan's Midnight Mass on Netflix and I absolutely adored it. Best thing I've seen in awhile, and the ending had me crying!

The Mister and I are going to try to watch one new (to us) scary movie every night this month to get in the mood for Halloween. What are you doing for this joyous, candy-filled, spooky holiday?
I've decided to end this newsletter with a picture of my adorable cat. You're welcome. (If you want to send me pictures of YOUR adorable cat... or dog or whatever, feel free!) I love pet pics!
