From our President

Another busy period with Council Elections completed, the trial of Postal Ballots was very successful with around 45 percent voting. Congratulations to the successful candidates. Congratulations are also in order for the unsuccessful candidates who participated in a very close competition.
CR Anthony Farrell has been elected as Deputy President and me as President. I believe we are all looking forward to the challenges ahead.

Yuna Community Centre- Congratulations on the Committee and Nicole Batten, Shires Community Development Officer, for being successful with Lotteries Commission Grant. Proves that communities who work hard and take an ownership of Projects have a far better chance of success.

Harvest – Please be aware of heavy vehicles on our roads, very busy time of year, had complaints in the past years of cyclists not being aware of or ignoring trucks which have less room to manoeuvre.
Fire Safety -  Please have a plan, as it’s too late in an emergency,

RDA Funding Cuts

Due to the recent change of Federal Government, Shire will not be receiving the Round 5 Regional Development Australia grant funds from the Commonwealth.
The three projects (total around the $45k mark) Council had listed for this grant funding and to be completed in 13/14 were:
  • Cemetery – Next stage of Wall/Entry Statement;
  • Nanson Historical Society – BBQ; and
  • Nabawa Playgroup – Shade Sails
None of the above projects have commenced as we were waiting on finalisation of the Funding Agreement from the Commonwealth, which it appear now will not be forthcoming. Unfortunately these projects will not be undertaken in 13/14 unless other funding sources become available.
