Nabawa Townsite Revitalisation Plan

Notice is hereby given by the local government of the Shire of Chapman Valley that the Nabawa Townsite Revitalisation Plan is available for comment.  A visual concept is available to view as well as a resource guide.  Click here for Plan objectives.
The Nabawa Townsite Revitalisation Plan document is available for viewing at the Shire office or the document can be viewed online.  Submissions on the Nabawa Townsite Revitalisation Plan must be made in writing or emailed on or before 4:00pm Friday 12 June 2015.

Buller Local Structure Plan

The draft Buller Local Structure Plan has been prepared and is now available for public comment.  The document can be accessed from the Shire office or alternatively the document can be viewed online .
Submissions on the draft Structure Plan must be made in writing and lodged with the Shire before 4:00pm Friday 29 May 2015.  For further information about the Buller Local Structure Plan please contact the Shire’s Planning Department on (08) 9920 5011.

Mental Health First Aid Training

Thanks to funding from One Life WA, FREE Mental Health First Aid Training will be coming to Chapman Valley.  This course is aimed at everyone, and will train you on how to provide some initial support to someone experiencing a mental health crisis, or developing a mental health problem.  Training dates are over two sessions - 29th June and 6th July 2015 at the Nabawa Community Centre.  For more information or to register, click here or contact Shire's Community Development Officer.

Mothers Day Morning Tea

Come and support your local community by attending the annual Mothers Day Morning Tea at the Nabawa Community Hall, Friday the 8th May.  Lots of delicious home made food, entertainment and goodies to buy.  Bring your Mum along for a drive through Chapman Valley.

Chapman Valley Harvest Ball

Local Projects Update

Nanson Showgrounds – Announcement of a successful funding application to install a bore within the Nanson Showgrounds providing a permanent and faster flowing water source for users of the grounds.  Thanks to the State Government’s Royalties for Regions Community Chest Fund and the Mid West Development Commission.
Chapman Valley Museum – The new building at the Nanson Museum can now commence and made possible by the State Government’s Royalties for Regions Community Chest Fund and the Mid West Development Commission.  Lotterywest and Shire of Chapman Valley have also contributed to this long awaited project to expand the museum, create a new area for the valuable machinery, while creating space in the existing shed to upgrade current exhibits.  Well done to our local museum!

Farm Business Assessment Scheme

Closing on the 30th June 2015, Chapman Valley farm businesses who are experiencing financial hardship are eligible to receive the FBAS.  It enables the employment of an independent business professional to provide a one off business assessment by providing an initial grant of up to $5,000, plus the ability to apply for a further $5,000 to implement the recommendations of the original assessment.  This can be done while still employing longer term consultant(s).

Previous rules requiring input from a farmer or pastoralist’s bank have been removed to make it easier to apply.  James Hamersley from the Rural Business Development Corporation can be contacted on 1800 198 231.


Borrow Box

Borrowbox is a new product offered by the State Library of WA offering free eBook and eAudio loans.  All you need to do is become a member of the Library.  The SLWA also has many other features including Family History, Storylines an online archive of Indigenous History, and Better Beginnings for early years Literacy.

Bigger Picture Sport

The new Bigger Picture Sport website is launched to help advocate that sport is not a luxury and plays a major role in securing the future of our kids and the future of our State.  You may not realise, but you are a part of the Bigger Picture Sport. On the site you will find out whether your child is eligible for a KidSport voucher and will also be able to find out whether your club can access funding for equipment grants or even support for new facilities.

Photo Competition - This year the Geraldton Visitor Centre Photo Competition is returning and they are hoping it will be bigger and better than last year. Winning photographs will be published in the 2016 Geraldton Calendar. (The 2015 Geraldton Calendar was sold out within weeks of going on sale!)  Please email the Visitor Centre for the entry form.

Baker Williamson Art Prize - All artists working in all media are encouraged to enter the Baker Williamson Art competition.  The prize includes $1000 prize money as well as your art exhibited at the BWS Studios for 1 month following the winning announcement.  Submissions are due by the17th June 2015.  Click here for more information about submissions.

Council will meet at 9.00am in the Council Chambers at Nabawa (3270 Chapman Valley Road) on each ordinary meeting date.



Entry is open to not-for-profit community groups and organisations of any size, who are seeking funding to help enhance the lives of people in their local community.  The community group or organisation should have a specific project in mind for how the grant will be used to benefit their local community. Grants available 1st Oct – 31st Dec 2015. Click here for more information.


Local cricket clubs have the chance to apply for Club Sponsorships. Each consists of a two-year, $2,000 financial commitment each year, as well as cricket gear. Clubs also get CommBank cricket merchandise, such as Commonwealth Bank marquees, to use on game days.  If your club, or a club you know could use our help, apply by 9 August 2015.  Click here for more information.

AMP is now seeking talented Australians who are working hard on a project or passion but just need a financial boost to take it to the next level.  Grants of between $10,000 to $100,000 can cover a range of activities, including training, travel and equipment costs, living expenses, rent and research.  Apply online by 14 May 2015.


This grant program supports a wide range of community-based projects that increase social inclusion and enhance community engagement in Australia.  Grants of up to $800 can be applied for under the Live Well or Learn Well categories.  Applications close on the 12th June, click here for more information.


Supporting talented athletes aged 13-21 years to pursue regional, state and national representation. Round 3 of the 2014/15 ATSS is now open for applications until Friday 15 May 2015.  The subsidy is for eligible events with start dates from 15 January 2014 to 15 August 2015.  Click here to find out more.


Supporting grassroots organisations and groups that are working hard in their local communities to improve children’s health and wellbeing through innovative and impactful projects.  Apply online for between $500 and $5000 before the 30th June 2015.


Coastwest is a State Government initiative aimed at providing opportunities for Western Australians to learn about, conserve and protect our coast.  The 2015-16 Coastwest grants are between $5000 and $50,000 and applications will close on the 15th June 2015.
