Australia Day Awards


If you know someone who goes above and beyond in your community then why not nominate them for an Australia Day Award?The Shire of Chapman Valley are now calling for nominations for the following categories:

Young Achiever of the Year

Chapman Valley Tourist Map


Chapman Valley now has stunning new brochure complete with self drive tours, highlights, history, local business promotion and things to see and do in Chapman Valley.  Hopefully you will see them pop up throughout the Midwest as they are currently being distributed.

They are now available from the Shire office, local businesses, Geraldton Visitor Centre, Geraldton Airport and Northampton Visitor Centre and Museum

Nanson Aussie Backyard Birdwalk


Volunteers from the Chapman Valley Historical Society and BirdLife Midwest-Geraldton assisted NACC with a bird walk and count to get people’s attention and interest in the National Aussie Backyard Bird Count.  NACC and the Shire of Chapman Valley would particularly thank the volunteers of the Chapman Valley Historical Society Museum and Freda Blakeway for making the bird count a success.

Chapman Valley Men's Shed


The Men shed will be holding a "Thank a Volunteer Day" on Sunday 4 December 2016 in Nabawa from 8.30am to 2.00pm. Come and join them for sausage sizzle, coffee, tea, cakes, smoothies and live music.  An open invitation for everyone to come along as well as anyone interested in holding stall.  Supported by Volunteering WA through National Volunteer Week event funds. Shire Wards and Representation


The Shire of Chapman Valley advises that the Minister for Local Government under the Local Government Act 1995, has abolished the current ward system within the Shire.  This will come into effect immediately before the next (local government) election day. Click here for more information.

Chapman Valley Projects 


Six local organisations received valuable funding through the recent round of Shire Community Growth fund.  Now in its third year running, eighteen local groups have now reaped the benefits of the funds.  Click here to view media release.

Two other funding announcements to receive grants are Chapman Valley Showgrounds and Yuna Community Pool. 
Interested in getting your child involved in a sports club but can't afford it? From the 14 November 2016 you can apply for your KidSport online, if you hold a valid Health Care Card or Pensioner Concession Card.

Crime SMS System

 
The Shire of Chapman Valley now has a new SMS system for residents to report crime.  The mobile number for residents to report events is 0429 688 503.  When a resident sends an SMS to this number they will receive the following response:
"Thx 4 using SMS Report CV-NR, making it #tougherforcrooks. If in danger dial 000. If urgent Ph 131444." 
Your SMS message will be forwarded directly to the Northampton Police Station.

DRUG AWARE YOUTH CULTURE
This fund focuses on skills development for young people and can include music workshops, script writing and production, skills development in graffiti art, writing and illustration, dance residencies, new media.  Up to $4000 is available to cover project costs such as artist fees, artist travel, materials, promotional costs, documentation or venue hire. Closes 23rd December 2016, more info through Country Arts WA.
 
ROYALTIES FOR REGIONS 

  1. Retain and build the benefits of regional communities.
  2. Support improved, relevant and accessible local services.
  3. Enable communities to deliver a sustainable economic and social future.
  4. Assist regional communities to prosper through increased employment, business and industry development opportunities.
  5. Increase capacity for local strategic planning and decision-making

Regional Grants Scheme funds between $50,000 - $300,000 
 

REGIONAL EVENTS SCHEME NOW OPEN
Applications for Tourism WA’s 2017-18 Regional Events Scheme close on December 13, 2016.  The scheme offers funding for eligible regional events held between July 1, 2017 and June 30, 2018 that have the ability or potential to attract visitors to the region, achieve media attention and involve and inspire the local community.
 
Event holders can apply for funding between $5,000 and $50,000.  Click here for more information.


WA SUICIDE PREVENTION STRATEGY GRANTS
Funding is provided for peer and mentoring activities or programs that contribute to the prevention of suicide, as well as increased suicide prevention training. These are grants of up to $20,000.  Applications close: 14 November 2016. Click here

COPLAND FOUNDATION GRANTS - INTERPRETATION
Grants will be awarded for the conservation, research and/or interpretation of historic houses or gardens, or collections and individual pieces already held by an institution. To be eligible for assistance a museum/institution must be recognised as a recipient institution under the Commonwealth Government's Cultural Gifts Program, and be open to the public.  Grants are up to $50,000 and close on the 15th November. NACC'S REGIONAL LANDCARE FACILITATOR (RLF) PROJECT
Small grants are available for community groups across the NAR to assist them in running capacity building activities that will engage our people in Landcare and NRM activities.
 
There is two categories of funding available for groups to apply:
  1. Funding to run activities or events that will lead to sustainable agriculture and biodiversity outcomes e.g. workshop/field day/ bus tour on soil health, biodiversity protection, wetland and riparian protection, etc. Groups can apply for funding of up to $1,000 to assist them deliver these outcomes. Training on rural leadership including women & youth will be considered on initial discussion with the RLF.
  2. Funding to help our community groups tackle the threats of feral animals in the region’s landscape e.g. red card for rabbits and foxes and any feral animal control event. Groups can apply for funding of up to $750 to assist them with the cost of running the red card for rabbits and foxes or any feral animal control.
GRANTS FOR ASIAN MARKET EXPORT
Aims to better equip Western Australian agriculture and food ('agrifood') exporting businesses to develop and implement strategies to capture export market opportunities and attract investment.  Grants are between $20,000 - $200,000 and close 25th November.  Click here

REGIONAL EVENTS SCHEME
Now open for events that fall between July 1, 2017 and June 30, 2018. Events should bring additional tourism income to regional communities by increasing visitor numbers, attract media coverage, involve and inspire the local community and extend the length of the traditional tourist season.  The grant closes on December 13 and funding is for up to $50,000.

MANAGING PEOPLE IN SPORT & RECREATION ENVIRONMENTS
The managing people in sport and recreation environments course caters to anyone in the sport and recreation industry, focusing on topics and strategies to increase knowledge and capacity of managing people in sport and recreation.
The course will be run on Monday 30 November, 6pm – 9pm, Cost $25  RSVP: 5pm Monday 21 November.  click here for more information.
