Chapman Valley Citizen of the Year

Congratulations Brenda Williamson for being selected the 2015 Chapman Valley Citizen of The Year.  Brenda accepted the award at The Great Aussie Breakfast on Australia Day at the Nabawa Oval with fellow nominee, Kelly Williamson.  Once again a crowd gathered at the Nabawa Rec Centre for a huge breakfast with Aussie games of Two Up and, 'eat the shape of Australia from a milk arrowroot biscuit'!

Dinner with Glenn Mitchell

Glenn Mitchell, past ABC Sports Commentator, will be coming to dinner at the Yuna Hall on the 26th February.   One Life WA have sponsored the event which is open to all ages and promises to be entertaining.  Glenn will focus on rural life and provide an insight into dealing with mental health.  Anyone associated with the agricultural industry to come along.
The event is free and Chapman Valley Menshed will have fruit smoothies available.  A
crèche may be provided during Glenn’s address if required. Contact Nicole Batten.

Fox Shoot Fundraiser

The Stockbrands Community Shoot will be targeting foxes, rabbits, feral cats, wild dogs and pigs, aiming to reduce feral animal numbers.  Stockbrands will donate $5 for every fox and feral cat with donations going toward the Royal Flying Doctor.  Teams must be registered by 20th February, with the animal count on the 22nd February, 7am Nabawa Rec Centre with free breakfast supplied.  

Chapman Valley Basketball Club Survey

The Chapman Valley Basketball Club have extended their response time for the survey to allow for those with technical issues to have input. Some have had trouble accessing the online survey.  If you are still unable to complete the survey, the CVBC can send you a copy.

Tourism Marketing Workshop

Tourism Council WA’s  e-tourism marketing workshop will be held in Geraldton on Wednesday 18th February 2015 at Pollinators. (City Hive).
This workshop will include: Tourism Boost, eTourism Essentials & Advanced, The Customer Service Way, China & Halal Ready, Media & PR, Marketing with Strategy, Market Insights (Restaurant Australia, Food & Wine, Coastal & Domestic Tourism).

KidSport enables Western Australian children to participate in community sport and recreation, no matter their financial circumstances. Eligible youth aged 5–18 years can apply for financial assistance to contribute towards club fees. The fees will go directly to the registered KidSport clubs through their participating local government.  Click here for more info.

Rabbit and Pig Baiting 50% Subsidy 

The Shire is looking to partner with enthusiastic community members who would like to undertake the baiting of rabbits and pigs in February 2015.

You are able to be subsidised a massive 50% of the cost of baits and for those baiting rabbits the Shire will loan you the drum baiting stations for free! For those on larger land holdings and needing larger quantities a mixing day can be organised at a central point.

There is a limit to the funding so first in first served! If you are interested in this opportunity please contact Kathryn Jackson at the Shire of Chapman Valley on (08) 9920 5011.

Local Projects Update

Chapman Valley Menshed - The builder is progressing and the construction should begin very soon.
Yuna Community Centre - A concrete pad will be poured on the 10th of February, with the community bringing in gravel ready for the rammed earth to begin mid February.

Howatharra Fire Brigade Shed - Power supply to be finished and construction will begin by end of April.

East Bowes Road -  Stabilising the gravel will be complete in 2 weeks which will be followed by the final seal.  Limited traffic along East Bowes Road from 2nd - 12th March would be appreciated during this time.
Richards Road and Dolby Road - sections will be sealed mid March.

Parkfalls Estate - Road shoulder work will be occurring during April.

Farm Businesses

RBDC Farm Business Assessment Scheme
The Rural Business Assessment Scheme has been extended to June 30 2015.  Grants up to $5000 are available along with other programs.  RBDC (Rural Business Development Council) travelled through Chapman Valley recently and are very approachable and encourage anyone with questions to pick up the phone and call them.  James Hamersley can be contacted on 1800 198 231 
Farm Income Support for Farmers
The Australian government recognises that many farmers cannot always access household assistance.  The Department of Human Services delivers the Farm Household Allowance, along with the Rural Financial Counselling Service to assist.  Click here for more information.
Access DoT direct and register to receive a free personalised account where you can manage all information relating to your personal vehicle licence and drivers licence, as well as pay all bills associated with these licences.  There is also temporary movement of vehicle permits available.

Australia Post Parcel Collect

Register for our Parcel Collect service to pick up your parcels at an Australia Post location that suits you.  How does it work? When you register online, Aust Post assign you a unique Australia Post Customer Number. You will then need to select the Parcel Collect location most convenient to you. Australia Post send you an SMS or email when it arrives so you can collect it straight away.

Council will meet at 9.00am in the Council Chambers at Nabawa (3270 Chapman Valley Road) on each ordinary meeting date.



Community organisations and local governments can apply for up to $5,000 for projects supporting women’s economic independence and leadership in our region.  Deadline for applications is the 12th March. 

Small Grants of up to $200,000, as well as Forward Planning grants are now available through Department of Sport and Recreation.  To access the guidelines and application click here.  All applications need to be submitted for Council approval by 9th March 2015.


Home Ground Advantage, is a program that provides local sporting clubs with the chance to invest in clubrooms, sporting grounds, equipment or general facilities so they can also continue to be a part of the Australian way of life.  Funds will be awarded to projects up to $10,000 in value  with a deadline 28th Feb 2015.


Coles are providing School Garden Grants of up to $1,000 to schools and youth groups to help create gardens in their grounds or community, such as bush tucker gardens, water wise gardens or veggie gardens.  Grants deadline is the 27th March.


To assist grant recipients to run, manage, conduct or implement programs that support children and youth up to the age of 21 years old in Australia. Grants up to $10,000 are available and close on the 27th February.
