 Health

School Nurses. The Coordinated School Health program in Washington County TN uses a holistic approach to health-related barriers to learning.

Vaping Prevalence. A new survey of American teens suggests that vaping is at a historical high.

Vaping Policy. Boulder Valley SD has a policy of educating students about vaping, rather than suspending them.
 
 Mental Health

Links to School Violence. The Florida Roundup discusses critical issues and solutions to address the relations between school violence and mental health.

On-Campus Care. Los Angeles high schools will host on-campus clinics for sexual and mental health services as part of a groundbreaking wellness program.

Effects of School Shootings. Stanford University researchers found that youths who attended a school where a shooting occurred increased their use of antidepressants by 21% two years later.

  Relationship Development

Continuous Improvement. Chula Vista Elementary SD (CA) uses intentional, deep, and sustained commitment to building positive relationships as the driving force for continuous improvement.

 Safety

Strategies. USA Today reports that the most effective approaches to improving school safety include preventative measures such as threat assessment & management and improving school culture.  

Planning. There are eight common features to consider in devising district safety plans.

Threat Assessment. Assessing school threats is an increasingly common task for elementary schools.

Gun Firing Analysis. ABC News found incidents involving the firing of guns at schools is more common than thought and that the majority (57.6%) have been at sporting events.

Dashboard. The 2019 California School Dashboard has been updated with the latest school and district data. 

Mental Health. Blue Shield of California is launching BlueSky. This collaboration with the California Department of Education and several nonprofit organizations will enhance awareness, advocacy, and access to mental health resources for middle and high school students.
