Catch up with the Class of 2020
The "Best Class of 2020" has been quite busy since the holiday break.

January saw the class reconnect for their Mid-Year Retreat at Sprenger Health Care Towne Center Community Campus in Avon Lake. The day included several programs focused on  development and growth, including: StrengthsFinders 2.0, developing their communication through team building challenges, and some healthy competition at Spevock's Nautical Bowling.

2020 also selected their community projects including support of: Blessing House's Be Part of the Heart Capital Campaign as the recipient of this year's Strides for Leadership 5K and Fun Walk, as well as creating a new event Pasta with a Purpose, to raise funds and awareness towards their campaign; LIFT, a program seeking NEW backpacks and luggage for displaced youth in Lorain County; and working with LLC to get Teaching Lorain County, a program created by the "Best Class of 2019," to fill the inaugural Class of 2021 with a class of 20 High School Students from around Lorain County.  Be sure to check our Facebook page for continuing developments on these projects.

February brought Law, Government and Politics Day to the class, who began their day with the Lorain County Commissioners during their February 5th meeting, before heading to the Lorain County Jail. During their time at the Jail, the Class meet with Lorain County Sheriff Stammitti, received a tour of the Jail, and had discussions around their Ride-A-Longs over lunch.
The second half of the day began at the 911 Call Center located just off of the LCCC campus, with a presentation and tour of their new facility. The class then traveled to the LCCC Spitzer Conference Center and finished their day with a "Shoot or Don't Shoot Scenario", a presentation by the Lorain County Coroner's office, homework discussion, and session day wrap up.

March got the class moving around downtown Lorain for their Economic Development Session Day. The first part of their day was spent on the lake front with Tom Brown, Executive Director for Lorain Port Authority, and Radhika Reddy, Developer of the newly opened Ariel Hotel, as the class toured, learned and explored until lunch.
Moving to Spectrum's catering facility for lunch and Champions of Leadership Presenter Tony Gallo kicked off the second half of their day. Presentations from Lisa Hutson, SBDC at LCCC and entrepreneur Eric Defibaugh, Scarlet Transportation & Adventure Tours followed by some session day and project team work rounded out their time at Spectrum. Finally the class met with the owners of Speak of the Devil before ending the day with some networking and bonding after hours.
The Class meets again for their Health and Wellness day on Wednesday, April 1st, when their Champions of Leadership Speaker Dr. Rebecca Starck, President, Cleveland Clinic Avon Hospital, will kick off their second to last session day.

The "Best Class of 2020" has selected some amazing class projects!

All said and done the class will be completing four class projects by their May 13th Induction Ceremony. Please help them spread the word, gain support, and leave their mark on Lorain County through their work.
