Congratulations to the "Best Class of 2019"
As another Signature Class year comes to an end; we are excited to continue into the next chapter with the "Best Class of 2019" as they enter the ranks of the "Best of the Best".
May 15th was an emotional day as the class met in the morning to bring their year full circle during their closing retreat. The class reconvened at the Emerald Event Center in Avon for their Induction Celebration. Julie Cruz Blair took the stage for a brief introduction, an insight to new pieces added to the program this year, and relayed many thank you's to the multitude of people who supported the year as sponsors, speakers and volunteers.
Welcoming the audience was class member Lacey Piper of Cleveland Clinic, who spoke of the connections made throughout their journey, followed by a heart felt Invocation by class member Regan Phillips of the City of Elyria, who spoke of being thankful for the year filled with discovery and friendship. After dinner the projects where introduced by: Alicia Foss - Neighborhood Alliance - infant room remodel; Heather Pasterak - Sleep In Heavenly Peace - bed construction, delivery and fundraising through a collaboration with legacy project Strides for Leadership; Erick Marcucci - Setting Up Youth For Success - educational materials and lesson plans developed in continuation of 2017's Life Simulation program; & Jake Kucbel - Teaching Lorain County - creation of a new program developed for LLC similar to the Signature Program but geared for an entire class of high school students. Debbie Davis came to the stage next to present the "Year in Review", giving away a few inside jokes, sharing some impactful moments and sharing her favorite memories.

Joining Julie on stage was the "Best Class of 2018's" Jeptha Carrell winner, Alison Cochrane of Nordson, she spoke of her experience and the honor of winning the class elected award. Call it a passing of the torch, Corey Rodriguez from Nordson Corporation took home the Jeptha Carrell award with tears and a smile saying how honored he was to have been selected by his class. Lorain County is lucky to have all of alumni in their corner.
