Information Here
Dear all,

You will hopefully have heard about the exciting Improving Access to Guiding Project (IA2G) which Essex West is running in partnership with Girlguiding HQ. Through this 18-month pilot project we are trialling different ways to improve the joining process for new volunteers, and developing a model which can be rolled out on a national level.

We have put together a welcome email and questionnaire to send when someone signs up on Join Us, with the goal of finding out at the very start whether there’s a particular unit that they have already agreed to help at, and whether they have particular skills and motivations that will help match them to the perfect role. We hope this will save time for Commissioners and Join Us coordinators. So…

***from September, the IA2G team would like to make the first contact with new enquirers on Join Us.***

We will send them the welcome email and questionnaire, then connect them with their District Commissioner (or the person responsible for meeting new volunteers in their district) who can continue the process as normal - but with extra info from the questionnaire! If you are willing to let us to answer new enquiries in your district, please click here to let us know! If you do not indicate your willingness, we will not contact any new volunteers in your district.

In other news, we are working on an exciting new Induction Pack which will include everything from county info and volunteer roles to a checklist with everything volunteers need to help them settle in. As soon as it’s ready, we will send the pack to you to try out with your new volunteers! And we are developing new welcome and induction events; if you’re interested in trying one of these in your district or division, please get in touch! We can support you with materials and ideas if you want to run a recruitment drive in the run up to the event.

If you have any questions, feel free to contact Penny on Penelope.Grenfell@girlguiding.org.uk. Don’t forget to let us know if we can trial the welcome email and questionnaire in your district by opting in here!

Thanks for being part of this important project!

Chris Skinner, County Commissioner
and Penny, Sarah and Louise, the IA2G team
Calling all Leaders in Training
Hopefully after a restful summer you’re raring to go for the new term. Planning meetings are probably in full swing by now and come the 12th September you’re likely to have had your first meeting of the new term too. So why not get some of your LQ signed off by one of our lovely Mentors? And if that wasn’t tempting enough… there will be cake too!

In Brentwood West we’re holding an informal information evening for potential new volunteers to come and find out more about who we are and what we do, as well as the opportunity Leaders In Training to catch up too. It’s a drop in event, so please feel free to join us on the 12th September anytime between 6 and 9pm at the Christ Church Centre, Warley, Brentwood, CM13 3AA. Did we mention there will be cake?!? So come and get your LQ signed off or just pop by for a chat with a Mentor or Commissioner (and a slice of cake) and help us give a warm welcome to some new faces. Visit the Girlguiding Essex West Facebook Page for more information or contact Sylvia in the County Office.

Hope to see you there.
