We have another exciting training session scheduled for Monday 30th Jan in Loughton, this time it’s Induction Training for New Volunteers! We’re piloting Girlguiding Fundamentals Training as part of the Improving Access to Guiding Project and would love for you to invite (or even bring along!) your newest volunteers. More details for this *free session* can be found by clicking on the link above.
Do you have an amazing friend or family member who is always interested in what you do as a volunteer for Girlguiding, but can’t spare the time to become a Leader or regular Unit Helper?
Maybe they have a van, accounting experience, or an interesting job/skill/hobby that they could share with our girls in 2017. Whatever it is, we’d love to hear from them!
As part of the Improving Access to Guiding Project we’re looking to build on the already amazing Art and Crafts Team offering in Essex West. We’re hoping to create an expanded Volunteer Pool to accommodate everyone who would like to volunteer with us, and show that every hour really does count! So if you know someone who you think would be a Really Awesome addition to the County, then please ask them to fill in this quick online form and we’ll be in touch with them shortly.
Every month we will update the website with this information and then do feature pieces in this e-Bulletin too showcasing what’s been happening in the County and how you go about booking someone for your unit/District/Division. If you too have a skill or service you’re willing to share more widely, then please also fill this form in yourself, the more the merrier!
If you have any questions then please contact Louise Barkes ( from the Improving Access to Guiding Project Team or the County Office (

We also have limited spaces left for the New Volunteer Residential Weekend on the 25-26th Feb in Hoddesdon. This is another Event that we’ve been able to fund via the Project and is amazingly *free* for new volunteers to attend. Please pass on these details to those requiring First Response, Safe Space and Section Training but note that spaces are limited and will be filled on a first come first served basis.
What do we do?
We are a group of 9 who meet a few times a year to consider how the membership of our County can be supported in their voluntary work.
This covers helping with:
  • The Leadership Qualification – organising books and providing mentors.
  • Providing a variety of training opportunities.
  • Acknowledging and rewarding achievements by way of the Award scheme.
  • Ensuring our membership is inclusive to those with special needs.
  • Offering support to commissioners
  • Working with other sub-groups of Essex West for the benefit of the County membership.
  • Working with the County Executive and liaising with the office.
If you would like further information or support please contact Chris Hewes at
Loughton North and Loughton South are to be amalgamated & will just be called Loughton District.
Sandra Munns is to be the D.C. with Cathy Daly & Shirley Utting as Assistant D.Cs.
It would be much appreciated if District Commissioners and Level Contacts could pass on the information in this newsletter to anyone in their District that does not have access to e-mail. Section Leaders are asked to cascade to Young Leaders and D of E / V-Volunteers. There are still some people not receiving their copy of the newsletter as their email address on Go! is incorrect. Please check and make sure that your details are up to date. If you do not wish to receive future copies of the E-Bulletin, please use the facility at the end of this issue to unsubscribe.
