22 “As long as the earth endures, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night will never cease.” Genesis 8:22 (NIV84)
You can actually purchase t-shirts that proudly proclaim, "I survived the Winter of 2014." And what a winter it has been. Bitter cold. Voluminous snow. Truth be told, I've heard more than one stout Wisconsinite question out loud whether Spring will ever come.
But it will, won't it? I mean, even though the calendar and the forecast are at odds with each other, has there ever been a time when the seasons never changed - when warmth didn't return?
The ground was still moist from the floodwaters when God pointed retired sailor Noah to a calendar and said, "trust me." Every time there is nightfall - there will be morning. Every time there is a season to plant - there'll be one to harvest. Every time there is a winter - there will be a thaw, and a summer. Until the day when this sinful world, still dripping wet, no longer stands between you, your people and me - and i welcome you home.
What water couldn't wash away, God washed away with the blood of his Son. Because of that Son, we look forward to the forever that will begin - on the day that seasons, and this world, come to an end.
In the meantime - drink in what's left of the cold and the dark, and yearn for what is surely to come.
Lord Jesus, with every sunrise and sunset, with every freeze and every thaw, remind me that you and your Father are still very much in control of the world and my life. As surely as I know light, warmth and summer will return, point my eager eyes to your return and glory you have prepared, earned and won for me as your child. Amen.
--> MEN'S Bible Study
- is now twice a month. That's right. We're now meeting on the first AND last Saturdays of the Month. So our next meeting will be this Saturday, March 29th at the M&M lunch in Two Rivers for our 7:30 AM Breakfast and Bible study. We're currently looking at "Very Important Chapters in the Bible." Please help get the word out to the men of our congregation. And if you are among them, please consider joining us on Saturday. If you know of a man, send him our way, and God will send back at better one!
