Webinar: Performing Arts in Canada: Where are the audiences?

Lockdowns are behind us, mask mandates have been dropped, social distancing is no longer required, and the doors of concert halls and theatres in Canada are wide open. And yet in many venues, ticket sales are not picking up. What is going on?

In this webinar, CAPACOA is inviting experts from Canada and the United States to share insights on box office data in the performing arts and provide some clarity on some of the burning questions on everyone’s mind: Where are our audiences? How do we bring them back?

Sign up for the Dance Umbrella of Ontario: Tour Readiness Workshop

Dance Umbrella of Ontario is hosting a Tour Readiness Workshop covering topics including building presenter-friendly dance works, moving from announcing the show to finalizing the contract, and formulating key support materials including sell sheets, tech and hospitality riders. This workshop, facilitated by Cameron Smillie, Director of Touring Canada’s Ballet Jorgen and founder Live at Hippo Pool Events Inc., will feature special presenter guests: 

The Tour Readiness Workshop will be held at the Dance Umbrella of Ontario offices at 410 Jarvis Street on November 17th, 2022 from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., with a dinner at The Keg Mansion to follow. There is a $100 + HST fee to attend the workshop, and space is limited. To secure your spot and learn more about the event, please reach out to communications@danceumbrella.net.

Call for Showcase Applications: Ontario & Friends at Folk Alliance International 2023

MusicOntario is returning to Kansas City in February 2023 to host its seventh annual private showcase suite at Folk Alliance International 2023, the world’s largest gathering of the folk music industry and community. To support Ontario-based artists and companies in their export, touring, and professional strategies, MusicOntario is accepting showcase applications from musicians from any tradition and iteration of folk music. Showcases are limited to 20 minutes in length, with 10 minutes to change over.

Interested applicants must be registered with the Folk Alliance International Conference and are required to submit a non-refundable administrative fee of $10.00 per submission if you are not a current member of MusicOntario, CIMA, or Folk Music Ontario. Applications must be submitted before November 25th, 2022.

Join the Creative Spaces Mentoring Network 2023 - 2024 Cohort

Leaders in Ontario’s arts community who are responsible for their spaces, capital-related issues, or are seeking to acquire or establish physical or digital creative space are encouraged to apply for the 2023 - 2024 cohort of the Creative Spaces Mentoring Network (CSMN).

As part of the CSMN program, ArtsBuild Ontario will match arts and cultural leaders from around Ontario with experienced Mentors from their own or other sectors for virtual one-to-one learning. After an initial training webinar, the mentoring teams will meet online for a suggested time of up to three hours monthly from March 1st, 2023 to January 31, 2024. Mentoring team discussions are confidential and will focus on particular challenges and skills identified by the Mentee at the beginning of the partnership. Mentor teams will take part in a Kick-Off Webinar, Mid-Program Webinar and a Wrap-Up Webinar.

Applications for the program are open until November 25th, 2022. Please note that if you are selected as a Mentee, a $150 fee is required for the full program year. To learn more about the program and to apply, visit the link below.

Applications Open for Tourism Relief Fund

FedDev Ontario is accepting applications for the Tourism Relief Fund in southern Ontario. Funding is available under the Tourism Relief Fund in southern Ontario for tourism operators to promote, present and/or expand activities that attract tourists and visitors to events happening between November 2022 and March 2023.

Indigenous tourism projects are prioritized under the Tourism Relief Fund; a minimum of $50 million will specifically support Indigenous tourism initiatives. New Tourism Relief Fund applicants are welcome to apply for this funding. Existing recipients must demonstrate how their new November 2022 - March 2023 proposal is distinct from their current or completed project. Tourism operators with events and activities during this time are encouraged to send in their applications by November 28th, 2022.

Call For Speakers for Festival & Event Ontario's 2023 Annual Conference

Festivals & Events Ontario is currently recruiting seasoned industry specialists and experienced individuals from the festival and events industry to share their leadership and expertise at the Annual 2023 Conference in Niagara Falls. Speakers will have the opportunity to share their knowledge, experience, and skills with a diverse community of 250+ festival and event industry delegates from across Ontario, including executive directors, CEOs, managers, event planners and many other industry professionals.
