There is a lot happening in Cheltenham with respect to town planning, as with the rest of Gloucestershire. Boots Corner, North Place and additional housing are just some of the projects on the go, along with the much discussed Joint Core Strategy (JCS). Which brings into focus the talents of chartered building surveyors, Evans Jones Ltd., led by its Managing Director, David Jones. We caught up with David to ask him about his career, various projects and the way ahead for town centre planning in Cheltenham. Read more.
Chamber Lobbying on Several Fronts

This month’s lobbying work has included the Joint Core Strategy, which is now going forward for approval by the three councils (Cheltenham, Gloucester and Tewkesbury), the redevelopment of North Place, which is also going ahead with Morrisons, who are committed to the project, and the Brewery development, which has now commenced building work. The Portland Street housing site is, however, currently on hold as the site is up for resale. Read more.

The Cheltenham Literature Festival has key business speaker events which you won't want to miss, including Mark Price, MD of Waitrose; Digby Jones, former CBI Director General, and presenter of BBC Two series The New Troubleshooter; John Lanchester, author of How to Speak Money.
Panel/group discussions include: Margaret Heffernan (A Bigger Prize), and Oliver James (Office Politics) discuss our dependence on competition and its downsides. Guardian journalist Aditya Chakrabortty, Professor of Economic History at LSE, Tirthankar Roy (India in the World Economy) and Patrick French, author of India: A Portrait, examine the Indian economy, growth and sustainability. Rose George (Deep Sea and Foreign Going) and Horatio Clare (Down to the Sea in Ships) discuss international shipping and its economic impact.

Silver Anniversary for 'Diamond' Lawyer
This month marks 25 years since conveyancer Steve Diamond joined leading Gloucestershire law firm, Willans LLP.
Steve took a rather unusual career path into law. He originally studied hotel management at GlosCat, then spent a number of years helping his best friend’s family run the fish and chip shop on Bath Road, (now known as ‘The Big Fish) and sold office equipment before starting his legal career with Willans in September 1989. Cheltenham in Bloom Annual Awards
This year's Chamber of Commerce Business Trophy was awarded at Cheltenham in Bloom's Annual Awards Evening at The Victory Club on September 12th. The Mayor Cllr. Simon Wheeler (above) presented a certificate and trophy to Mr Mohammad Rahman (above left), MD of The Spice Lodge. The award was won for the Spice Lodge's consistency in providing good hospitality and fundraising activities for charities across the county.
The Newcomer Trophy was awarded to St. Vincent's & St. George's Phoenix Centre (above right), for their garden's within Well House, Lansdown, along with providing function rooms and hospitality at the Phoenix Centre. Read more.
Severn Trent Reopens Suffolk Road
Severn Trent Water has taken the decision to reopen Suffolk Road on Friday (26 September), after difficulties with ground conditions has stopped the company from putting new sewers in place. The work, which will prevent sewer flooding in the area, will start again next year once investigations are complete and a new design is in place. Read more.
