Following the success in 2013, we are holding another 'Meet the Chamber' event on Thursday 6th March at 6 pm at the stunning Ellenborough Park Hotel and Spa. Last year's event was our best attended with over 100 members and businesses. 

As well as being an excellent FREE networking opportunity for you and your business, it is also an opportunity to bring along other business contacts, suppliers or customers who are not yet members of the Cheltenham Chamber of Commerce. Joining us will be Mayor Wendy Flynn along with representatives of the Chamber, who will talk about their activities and the benefits of membership. Everyman Theatre

No doubt you’ve noticed The Everyman Theatre has upped its profile in Cheltenham and throughout the region the last several years. With the financial crisis and cutbacks in funding for the arts, one could argue it was a necessity. Still, The Everyman seems not only to have survived but thrived during these difficult times.

Contributing to this success are Francesca Goddard and Jackie McKenzie, who job-share their Press, Marketing and Sponsorship role at The Everyman. They have been active in promoting productions, events and the theatre in a coordinated, seamless way that makes for a great double-act fit for the stage. We caught up with both of them to ask how they made their job-share a success, what it is like promoting a creative and venerable theatre, and for their advice to those thinking of following their job arrangement. Read more.

The Chamber's Networking Night at the Queens Hotel was an over-subscribed event and, as always, a great social occasion. Willans Quiz Raises Cash for County's Hospice
Cheltenham law firm Willans LLP has raised £3,000 to help provide care and comfort to people with cancer and other potentially life-limiting conditions. The money raised will help fund new equipment and the cost of care provided by Sue Ryder Leckhampton Court Hospice. 200 local business professionals attended the charity quiz night at Hatherley Manor Hotel on the evening of 27 February. 46 teams from businesses such as Albright Patents, Barclays, Barnett Waddingham, Brewin Dolphin, Cambray Property Management, Commercial Group, Crowe Clark Whitehill, Errington-Smith, Hazlewoods and Randall & Payne took part in the fundraiser.Raffle and auction prizes were kindly donated by local businesses, including Cotswold Hills Golf Club, At-Bristol, Brickhampton Golf Club, Three Choirs Vineyard and All Your Life. Forms New Committees

Since its recent inception, the Association has encouraged and developed closer working relationships among chambers across Gloucestershire, and the recent meeting showed how much progress is being made. The Association has set up 3 sub-committees covering Communications, Code of Practice and Future Development with the objective to promote the county as a great place to live, work and visit, and as a centre for support and advice. For further information contact Cheltenham Chamber Office.

GlosJobs Sees Record Job-Postings

A record number of job-seekers and new vacancies gave Glosjobs a hectic start to the year.  Latest figures reveal saw 121,282 visits and 2,326 new job adverts uploaded last month – at the same time as the UK unemployment rate figures fell to 7.1%. Read more.

  • Many businesses are aware of social media, such as Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn, but not many take the time to understand how they can make use of it to promote their business. Pitman Training has just launched the Social Media for Business Award which will provide attendees with a practical knowledge about how to utilise these powerful mediums effectively.
  • During March we will be launching the New Accounting Technician Diploma with AAT Qualification which will lead to the AAT Level 2 Certificate in Accounting. 
  • Since we opened 3 years ago (14th March 2011) every diploma graduate has been helped to find work in the areas they studied. Last year 95% of our students achieved a pass and 78% achieved a distinction.

Davies Mayers Barnett Appoints Andrew Jupp as Tax and Non-Executive Director
Davies Mayers Barnett, the Cheltenham-based independent accountancy firm, has appointed Andrew Jupp as Tax and Non-Executive Director. Jupp will be providing support to the firm's tax offering and acting in a strategic advisory role for the firm. Jupp was formerly National Head of Tax for RSM Tenon and a partner with Ernst & Young. Read more.
