Key messages from the last Board meetings
Members heard about veterans’ health and wellbeing issues, the Living in Warwickshire survey, reports from the local NHS trusts, the impact of the 2014 operating framework on the CCGs, the Better Care Fund, Public Mental Health draft strategy and progress on the outcomes of the Health and Wellbeing Strategy.

NHS Trusts focus on A&E services
Reports from the three NHS Trusts – George Eliot Hospital, University Hospital Coventry & Warwickshire and South Warwickshire Foundation Trust – at last month’s Board meeting focused on their responses to the Keogh Report on Accident and Emergency Services.

Vision for Better Care Fund approved
The Warwickshire Health and Wellbeing Board has approved the vision and direction to deliver the Better Care Fund in Warwickshire. The approved high level template plan was submitted to NHS England last week. The submission of the more detailed plan is due by 4 April 2014. Read more here.

Responding to the Winterbourne Concordat
The shocking abuse of patients that took place at Winterbourne View, leading to its closure in 2011 and the publication of the Winterbourne Concordat and Transforming Care, was presented to members as a reminder of why Health and Wellbeing Boards need to deliver key requirements by April 2014. Read more here.

Update from Healthwatch Warwickshire
Healthwatch Warwickshire was contacted 177 times in the three months from 1 October to 31 December 2013. The majority of callers wanted information and advice, but there were 31 complaints about services. Read more here.

Respect Yourself award nomination
Respect Yourself have been short-listed for an award at the annual UK Sexual Health Awards on 14 March. The nomination is for 'Young people’s service/project of the year' and is for the development of a new website and mobile phone application. Read more here.

Maternity Cover for Monika Rozanski
Monika is expecting her first baby in early May and she will be starting her leave in April 2014. Paula Mawson will provide the cover for Healthwatch and Advocacy commissioning. The Public Health support to the Health and Wellbeing Board will be provided by Catherine Rigney. Read more here
Discharge to Assess project update
Discharge to Assess (D2A) is a transformation project that builds on local developments, designed to move care closer to home and reduce unnecessarily prolonged acute hospital stay.
It is a multi agency project working with Warwickshire County Council (WCC) and the Clinical Commissioning Groups including Continuing Health Care (CHC). Read progress update report

Report from Joint MoU and Francis Workshop now available
Warwickshire Health and Wellbeing Board’s joint event with the Health and Social Care Overview & Scrutiny Committees and Healthwatch Warwickshire provided an opportunity to discuss the roles of the three functions and their mutual relationships, with a specific focus on the implementation of Sir Robert Francis’ recommendations in relation to NHS services. Important dates

There are a number of important events planned as part of the Warwickshire Health & Wellbeing Board's (HWB) activity after March 2014. These include the review of the Joint Strategic Needs Assessment (JSNA) and the Board's Strategy for the next 3 years. All Board members are requested to note these dates in their diaries:

29 April 2014, 13.30 - 15.30 - JSNA and HWB Strategy Review Launch - Stakeholder Event
21 May 2014, 13.30 - 16.30 - HWB Board meeting and Annual Review Conference
23 June 2014, 14.00 - 16.00 - JSNA and HWB Strategy Prioritisation Workshop
1 September 2014, 14.00 - 16.00 - HWB workshop to discuss draft HWB Strategy

Also, a seminar is being jointly organised with Coventry City Council to discuss Better Care Fund plans on the afternoon of 28 April 2014
