Prayers & Programs Canceled This Month: Please Watch Online

The Islamic Center of Southern California has decided to cancel ALL programs through the end of the month, and move them online to ensure accessibility and health simultaneously.

Assalamu Alaikum,

In response to Governor Gavin Newsom’s
announcement last night that public gatherings of more than 250 people should be postponed in order to prevent the spread of COVID-19, the Islamic Center of Southern California has decided to cancel ALL programs through the end of the month, and move them online to ensure accessibility and health simultaneously.

The Islamic Center will be offering a virtual khutbah tomorrow at 1:00 pm, which we invite you to join online at our website and through Facebook. We encourage you to bookmark these pages now.

To be clear, all three of our Jumma services will be canceled: Los Angeles, Santa Monica, and Pasadena. The doors of all three buildings will be closed on Friday. The Center will NOT be open for daily prayers.

We are also working to make our Sunday Programs and other educational programs available online. This includes adult and youth programs. Stay tuned for more details in our weekly newsletter, which you should receive later today.

As of now, the only exception to the ICSC shutdown will be the Food Pantry, which will continue to operate on Saturday mornings in the parking lot rather than the social hall.

The board of the Islamic Center made this decision out of an abundance of caution and in keeping with Islamic teachings which prioritize public health over religious gatherings. As we work together to keep our community members healthy and safe, we ask you to support the Islamic Center today with a generous donation in order to support our ongoing programs during this uncertain time.

The World Health Organization has declared Covid-19 a pandemic, with cases reported in 114 countries and more than 4,000 deaths to date. According to public health officials, the best way to prevent the spread of the virus is good hygiene practices and avoiding public places for the time being.

We request that you share this announcement with your family and friends, with the hope that we reduce inconvenience and enhance public health for all.

May God guide us all as we strive only in His cause.

In peace,
