Creative Cauldron, Falls Church Arts, Tinner Hill Heritage Foundation, The Little City CATCH Foundation, and Washington Sinfonietta among recipients
Monday, November 6, 2017 -- The Falls Church City Council recently approved a recommendation from the Arts and Humanities Grant committee to allocate $45,000 in funding for arts and cultural grants. An additional $4,500 was funded through a grant from the Virginia Commission for the Arts (VCA).
Six proposals were received for Project Grants for a total of over $26,800, of which $20,000 is budgeted to be funded with an additional $5,000 from the VCA matching grant. Four proposals were received for Operational Grants for a total of over $41,000, of which $25,000 is budgeted to be funded.
Recipients include Creative Cauldron, Falls Church Arts, Tinner Hill Heritage Foundation, The Little City CATCH Foundation, and Washington Sinfonietta. Details on their projects and operational needs are listed below:
Creative Cauldron: Two grants including funding for creating the original musical Witch ($2,500 in City funding with a $2,500 match from state funding) and an operational grant for office administration, utilities, and facility overhead ($10,000 in City funding).
Falls Church Arts: Three grants including establishing a pilot project to install a temporary exhibit of original pieces of public art in the city’s new bus shelters ($3,600 in City funding), an operational grant to help acquire and train, interns on a stipend basis to help complete many of the routine daily tasks ($3,600 in City funding). Falls Church Arts is also sponsoring a Public Sculpture Project designed to engage a diverse range of people working together to construct environmental and socially relevant temporary sculptures in Howard E Herman Park ($2,000 City funding with a $2000 match from state funding).
Tinner Hill Heritage Foundation: Two grants including funding for creating promotional, publicity and marketing materials for the 2018 Tinner Hill Blues Festival ($5,000 in City funding) and an operational grant for administrative and general expenses ($3,833 in City funding).
The Little City CATCH Foundation: Two grants including an operational grant for professional services, storage space, office supplies, and website costs ($4,167 in City funding) and sponsoring Watch Night grant for entertainment and promotion ($5,000 in City funding).
