Official appointments
The following priests have been appointed pastor or administrator, effective July 6, 2020:
  • Rev. David Leibham, pastor of Church of the Resurrection, Emmaus in Lakeway.
  • Rev. Jesse Martinez, as administrator of Santa Cruz Parish in Buda.
The following transitional deacons will be ordained priests on June 27 and have been appointed as parochial vicar, effective July 6, 2020:
  • Rev. Miguel Flores, parochial vicar at St. Joseph Parish in Killeen.
  • Rev. Kyle Nesrsta, parochial vicar at St. Louis King of France Parish in Austin.
  • Rev. Zack Rodriguez, parochial vicar at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Parish in Pflugerville. He will continue post-graduate studies in Rome in the fall.
  • Rev. Will Rooney, parochial vicar at St. Mary Cathedral in Austin.
  • Rev. Christopher Smith, parochial vicar at St. John Vianney Parish in Round Rock, then, effective Aug. 14, as parochial vicar at St. Mary Catholic Center in College Station.
 The following priests have been appointed as parochial vicar, effective July 6, 2020:
  • Rev. Leobardo Almazán, OP, parochial vicar at St. William Parish in Round Rock.
  • Rev. Adrian Chishimba, parochial vicar at St. Vincent de Paul Parish in Austin.
  • Rev. Joseph Daheim, parochial vicar at St. John Neumann Parish in Austin.
  • Rev. Ron Feather, parochial vicar at St. Thomas Aquinas Parish in College Station.
  • Rev. Edwin Kagoo, parochial vicar at St. John the Evangelist Parish in San Marcos.
  • Rev. John Kim, parochial vicar at St. Albert the Great Parish in Austin.
  • Rev. Paul-Michael Piega, parochial vicar at St. Mary Catholic Center in College Station.
  • Rev. Froylan Jerez Rivera, parochial vicar at St. Helen Parish in Georgetown.

  Other appointments:
  • Rev. Hai Nguyen has been appointed associate chaplain at the University Catholic Center at the University of Texas in Austin, effective July 1, 2020.
  • Rev. David Trahan II has been appointed parochial vicar at St. Mary Cathedral in Austin, effective Aug. 14, 2020.
  • Rev. Samuel Hose has been granted retirement effective July 6, 2020.
Father’s Day message
Please join me in praying for all fathers, living and deceased. We ask God to strengthen fathers as they lead their families closer to Christ. Let us ask the intercession of St. Joseph to bless and protect all fathers.

Upcoming ordination with venue change
I will ordain Deacons Miguel Flores, Kyle Nesrsta, Zack Rodriguez, Will Rooney and Chris Smith to the priesthood on June 27 at St. Vincent de Paul Parish in Austin (note the change in venue). Due to social distancing, seating is limited to those with an invitation. The Mass will be livestreamed beginning at 10:20 a.m. at www.austindiocese.org and on the Diocese of Austin Facebook page. Please consider hosting a watch party via Facebook so that as a community we can pray for these men who will be ordained.
 
Special collection this weekend
The Seminarians and Priest Education and Formation collection will be taken up this weekend.

Summer faith classes
Throughout the summer, the diocesan Office of Evangelization and Catechesis is offering a variety of courses to serve the needs of Catholic school educators, parish catechists, youth ministers and all others who want to learn more about their faith. Courses feature instruction by experienced trainers and include printed materials and books for students. All courses will be held online. Ethics and Integrity in Ministry
EIM Workshops have been postponed during this time of COVID-19; however, the EIM Office has created a Temporary Online EIM Training to fulfill the compliance requirement for those who already have an EIM account and are due or past due to attend an EIM Workshop. [En Español]
 
Cedarbrake Catholic Retreat Center

Upcoming retreat
The Six Great Catholic Spiritualities retreat will be held July 10-12 at Cedarbrake Catholic Retreat Center in Temple. The retreat will help participants discern which of the six spiritualities (Benedictine, Carmelite, Cistercian, Dominican, Franciscan and Jesuit) fits them best. Participants will watch the DVD series featuring Franciscan Father Albert Haase and discuss aspects of each spirituality with him.
