The Girls Against Violence Committee's Special Guest Speakers

Dear WGG Members,

On Thursday, December 1st, WGG’s Girls Against Violence committee hosted a WGG Monthly Meeting, organizing a panel discussion, and presenting the social media campaign on ending violence against girl child. This 7-minute-video involved  students from the United Nations International School, as well as the interviews from the experts working in the field of providing services to victims of violence, including representatives from GEMS and Sanctuary for Families.

The social media campaign video got an overwhelming joyous response from the audience  to see that these young children believed that violence against women and girls was a critical issue that should be addressed immediately. The video presentation was followed by the panel discussion. Among the guest speakers were Nada Odeh, a Syrian artist, activist and modern-day poet who is here on a scholarship from http://jusoorsyria.com; Vaughan Bagley, Special Projects Manager at the http://www.joyfulheartfoundation.org, an organization focusing on domestic violence here in New York City; and Saba Ismail, an Advisor to the UN on Youth, Peace, and Security who is also the co-founder of http://www.awaregirls.org, a young-women-led organization in Pakistan, working for empowering young women. Through discussions and a Q&A session, audience members were able to engage with the panelists to further examine ways to combat violence against women. Everybody was deeply moved by the stories and experiences shared, and at the end of the panel, there was an atmosphere of warmth and appreciation for the strength and bravery women retain despite the challenges and obstacles that they face in their lives.

You can find #16days social media campaign video on the WGG Youtube page https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rwzm15pcsLs&feature=youtu.be

Sincerely,
WGG's Girl Against Violence and Communications Team
