Project Sticker Shock Operations

In the month of May, Day One has partnered with eleven local liquor retailers to raise awareness of the spike in underage drinking during the Cinco de Mayo holiday. We want to give a special thanks to our local liquor retailers for allowing our interns and Youth Advocates to place alcohol prevention campaign materials at their stores. Special shoutout to Latin America Market, Argentina Market, M&S liquor, A-1 Liquor, All Star Liquor, Showcase Wine and Spirit, Mission Wine and Spirit, Lake Avenue Market, Alta-Dena Dairy, and Alta Dena Drive-In-Dairies for your leadership and helping reduce youth access to alcohol and reinforce safe retail practices. Project Sticker Shock Interns and our Youth Advocates placed 10 campaign posters and 1,000 warning stickers on beer, alco-pops, and other alcohol multipacks to help remind adults that it is illegal to purchase or provide alcohol to anyone under the age of 21. Our Project Sticker Shock Interns and Youth Advocates plan to continue working with local alcohol retailers to prevent underage drinking and help promote safe drinking practices during major drinking holidays. Life Skills Mentorship Program

We want to give a big thanks to Pasadena Unified School District for partnering with Day One to implement the Life Skills Mentorship Program at Washington STEAM Multilingual Academy, McKinley Middle School, and Sierra Madre Middle School for 12 weeks. The Life Skills Mentorship Program is a unique learning experience where we believe that every student has the right to achieve their full potential. Our intention is to provide a safe, supportive environment, built on high expectations that can inspire a student to thrive. A place where students will build their confidence and start to believe that they can and will succeed. Through this program, students will learn social-emotional learning (SEL) skills. These SEL skills are designed to teach students the necessary skills to resist social (peer) pressures, develop greater self-esteem and self-confidence, and enhance their decision-making and problem-solving skills. Our goal is to improve school success, increase academic confidence, motivation, and social skills, and build personal connections. We hope to implement this program again in the next academic school year 2022-2023 to connect and give other students the opportunity to join this amazing program!
