Hello Mass Timber Colleagues!
Feature: Idaho Central Credit Union Arena
The Central Credit Union Arena at the University of Idaho is a model for the use of timber in long-span sports facilities across North America. The 4,200-seat arena is the new home for the Vandal's varsity basketball teams and a gathering place for a variety of school and community events.
With the freeform timber structure erected on site, the arena is nearing final stages of construction and will be open to the public this summer. Collaborating with Opsis Architecture, Hastings + Chivetta Architects, KPFF, and Hoffman Construction, StructureCraft acted as structural engineer and builder for the free-form timber roof structure to help bring the signature arena to life. Of note is the 120' span portal frame which acts as the supporting structure between the main and practice arenas. This was erected in 3 large pre-assembled pieces weighing over 50,000 lbs.
