Happy September everyone!

The school buses are back on the roads.  But the temperatures are more like July than September - expected high is 31 today (36 "real feel" humidex)!

We were busy all though the summer this year.  And usually August is the second slowest month of the year.  No complaints though - it's been great helping so many wonderful people to buy and sell homes!

If you're wondering if its a good time for you to sell or buy, or if you have any questions no matter how small, give us a call!

Thanks again for all of those referrals - they're always appreciated!
Cheers,
     Eric

Tom Spears · Ottawa Citizen

Ottawa property owners with trees killed by the emerald ash borer may be eligible for up to $500 per tree in subsidized removal and replacement costs.

The South Nation Conservation Authority and the City of Ottawa have partnered to make the offer on a first-come, first-served basis. It covers 50 per cent of the cost of removal and replanting, up to the $500 limit. There’s a limit of $5,000 (10 trees) per landowner.

The complete program guidelines and the application form can be found at: www.nation.on.ca/eab

The Ottawa Market Report for August 2018

Another good month for Ottawa real estate resales.  Indicators are up for all of the data points that we review.  And August is usually the second slowest month of the year!

It does appear that condos have finally pulled out of the slump that they have been in since the summer of 2012 when the federal government started mucking about in the mortgage rules to protect the banks. Only up about 1% in average sale price when comparing 12 months, but an increase of almost 15% in sales.    ...read more...

Aging Ottawa Community Housing townhouses to make way for new tower
Kate Porter · CBC News · Aug 21, 2018

32 rowhouses in west Centretown are being torn down by Ottawa Community Housing (OCH) to make room for a new social housing development that's more energy efficient than most modern houses.  (Note:  all occupants have been relocated.)

They plan to create a net-zero building where a bank of solar panels and well-insulated walls should allow the $34-million building to create more power than it uses.

OCH maintains a portfolio of over 15,000 units, so energy efficiency is very significant.   ...read more...

Feral Peacocks Are Roaming Surrey

Who knew there were feral peacocks in Canada!

The felling of a favoured peacock perch in a Surrey, B.C., neighbourhood has exposed a divide between locals who like the beautiful birds and those frustrated with the noise, mess and property damage.

Residents said the feral peacocks have been a part of the neighbourhood since it was built over a decade ago, and despite pleas to politicians and animal protection the problem has only multiplied.   ...read more...
