HOW TO GROW
SPRING BLOOMING HELLEBORE WEBINAR
Hellebores are beloved for their Christmas and mid-winter blooms, but more and more growers are trying the hybrid types, such as the Frostkiss series, which bloom later into the spring than the traditional niger types. But the hybrids are a bit of a different animal to grow. In this webinar, our New Product Development Manager April Herring-Murray along with world renowned Hellebore expert Bart Noordhuis will share some tips for growing hybrid Hellebores, including:
  • Proper planting seasons
  • Fertilization schedules
  • Suggested pot spacing

BART NOORDHUIS

OWNER AND BREEDER at Exceptio B.V., Holland

Bart has shown interest in Helleborus since starting his nursery almost 30 years ago.  At the time he noticed there were no varieties that were easy to produce for growers, that would flower in one year and come in other colors apart from white. For Bart's breeding work he travels all over the world to find the right parents, gaining knowledge by meeting unique people in the breeding world.  Finally 10 years ago his company had a breakthrough in breeding. Together with a breeder in England he cracked the code to a unique way of crossing Helleborus which they can reproduce via tissue culture and almost all colors are possible now. Flowering within one year, colors from white to red, pink, purple and even yellow in the future, they created the Frostkiss series. A life time work .
