IN THIS NEWSLETTER: celebrateCan you believe that it is the end of the year again? But the good news is that our Annual Faraday Show will be on Saturday, December 11! Join us and the UBC Chemistry Outreach Program to celebrate the International Year of Chemistry. The Welcome Orientation for Women (WOW) on January 5 is an one-day session for female students in grades 11, 12, or first year university who are interested in physics & astronomy. This is a great opportunity for students to chat with professors in the department, interact with speakers and students, check out the university, and learn about options in physics & astronomy (Did we mention free lunch and the awesome hands-on robot activity?). For teachers across the country, remember to save the date - the National Michael Smith Challenge is happening on February 28, 2012. Registration will open in Jan 2012, but you can get your students to start preparing by checking out past exams on our website. Finally, we are looking for your help with the Experience Science @ UBC event. Your help will provide many children an opportunity to visit the campus to participate in hands-on science activities!

Want to learn more? Please read on for more information on these upcoming events. In case we don't see you at the Faraday Show, have a wonderful holiday season and we will see you next year!

Don't forget to check out our website for more info, or like us on facebook!

Need your help
Experience Science @ UBC Day

The Experience Science @ UBC Day is an event where grades 4-7 students from Downtown East Side have an opportunity to gain exposure to science subjects: physics, math, computer science, and biology, in a fun and interactive way. Unfortunately the external funding supporting this event in the past two years is not available anymore. To give more students an opportunity to explore science - an opportunity that some of them cannot afford - we are asking for your help. If you are interested in contributing, please send your donation cheque payable to "UBC - Experience Science @ UBC Day, Fund # G0061" and mail the cheque to "UBC Physics & Astronomy Outreach, 6224 Agricultural Road, Vancouver, BC, V6T 1Z1." Please include your name and return address as we will issue receipts for donations above $20.

Thank you in advance for your help!
