Stonegate CHC's Work Toward our New Home
Stonegate CHC has been behind black hoarding on a construction site for almost two years now. Our goal has always been to remain in the Stonegate community and to be a part of the redevelopment of this site. I know looking at the site, it is hard to perceive progress toward our goal of a new Community Health Centre. We are very excited though about the progress behind the scenes. Before the end of the summer we will see the construction commence on what will be our future home. The first building to be constructed on the site will be a two story commercial building. Stonegate CHC’s new home will be on the second floor of that building. We have finalized a lease agreement with VanDyk, the developer to secure our home here in this community for the next 20 years. Our staff are all fully engaged in reviewing architectural drawings so that we can achieve the best layout for our new home. The Ministry of Health Capital Investment Branch is supporting us with strategies to make their approval process at multiple points in the project go as smoothly as possible. It will likely be early 2018 before we are ready to move in to our new home. In the meantime, we will stay in our original building and continue to offer our full range of services to this community.
We are also very excited about the plans for a food co-operative to occupy one of the stores on the main floor. We have been clear throughout this process that this community needs a source of good, affordable food. Discussions are also underway with other potential first floor tenants which will likely include a pharmacy, hair salon and coffee shop.
Summer Adventure Camp Program
It is that time of year again, you can hear the anticipation in the air as the 2015 - 2016 school year is coming to an end. We are fast approaching summer and are busy planning our Summer Camp Adventure Program for children 6 to 12 years of age.
On June 8th we opened registration for the camp program and within 3 hours we were full!! The Summer Adventure Camp Program is free and operates Monday to Thursday from July 4 to August 18th at St Marks School. Children in the program have an opportunity to participate in cooking activities, arts ,science, field trips and more. Last summer our campers created a digital story, go to our website at www.stonegatechc.org to check it out. We also took part in a rugby program, visited the Metro Zoo, and Second City to watch a comedy entitled Vampire Campfire.
We want to thank the St Vincent De Paul Society for their financial support without it we would not have been able to provide some of these activities and more.
For the price of two lattes you can support one child attending camp for a day! Every $40 donated to the Stonegate CHC Summer Adventure Camp gives a child an opportunity to come out make new friends, learn new skills and have fun in a safe environment for a week.
To make a donation to the children and youth programs, please visit our Canada Helps site.

Living Life to the Full
Stonegate CHC will be one of eight CHC’s that have been selected to deliver the Living Life to the Full program (LLTTF); this is partnership with the Canadian Mental Health Association. Living Life to the Full is an interactive course designed to help individuals deal more effectively with everyday life challenges. Based on the cognitive-behavioral therapy model, LLTTF provides practical strategies to help people to better manage their thoughts, feelings and emotions and begin to live healthier, happier, more fulfilling lives. LLTTF is also a great resource for those supporting friends or family members who are dealing with mental health problems. We will be facilitating this program in the fall, look for program dates in our August calendar.
Bell Manor Park Activities
Thanks to support, and funding, from Parks People and TD Park Builders, Stonegate CHC is able to host a variety of programming in Bell Manor Park during the summer months.
Annual General Meeting
We will be planning our Annual General Meeting over the summer and announcing the date and all the details in August. Members will receive either via email or post the agenda and other documents related to the Annual General Meeting in early September, at least two weeks in advance of the meeting.
