Message from Bev Leaver, Executive Director, Stonegate CHC
I think many of you have heard by now, but just to confirm, the soil testing around our site was favourable.
The developers are “virtually certain” that we will be able to stay in our current location during the development of the rest of this site. We learned on Wednesday night in a meeting with the developer VanDyk and our City Councillor that most of this wing of the plaza will be demolished right up to the wall of our building.
We will have to relocate the services we now have in our Annex into the building to the east of our health centre. There are many details to work out about that, but we fully intend to continue offering dental services and our healthy child programming.
The Service Centre will close December 31, 2013. The ValuMart will close January 31st and the rest of the tenants have been given notice to close by February 28th. The plaza will be a very different place, very soon. Take a look at the attached picture of the plaza in the old days.
Demolition of the plaza, excluding Stonegate CHC, is planned to commence in January (with the service centre) and in likely March\April for the Grocery Store and the balance of that wing of the plaza. I am uncertain at this point about the timing for when the part of our wing will be demolished. First we need to relocate dental operatories and the programming space.
The first building to be constructed is planned to be the replacement Grocery Store with Stonegate CHC to be the second storey of that building. The developer suggested that would be completed in the fall of 2015, but that may be optimistic. The residential construction will not commence until two years pass post soil and ground water remediation - approximately April 2016.
VanDyk has created a website link where they will post their updates about the development of this site.
