Annual Commercial Fishing Photo Contest is live, accepting submissions through September 30
ASMI’s annual photo contest kicked-off this month and will remain open to submissions through summer. The categories this year include: "Action shot," "Best catch," "The family that fishes together," "Best scenic," "Best boat," "Fishing lifestyle & communities," and "Best #AlaskaSeafoodHacks". In addition to earning cash and/or prize packages, winning photos will be used in ASMI marketing activities around the world and shared with the Alaska seafood industry to promote Alaska seafood.

Alaska sablefish on display at Flavor Forays BBQ Cook-off
ASMI sponsored Flavor Forays BBQ event in Chicago, a championship BBQ cook-off and networking event that takes place each year during the National Restaurant Association show. Attendees included 400 foodservice industry leaders and Chicago’s top chefs who competed for a grand prize by choosing their protein and creating innovate sample bites. Two chefs- Chef Andrew Zimmerman from Proxi and Chef Matt Lukas from Wood Restaurant chose Alaska sablefish as their focused ingredient.

ASMI sponsors National Restaurant Association reception
ASMI participated in an International Corporate Chef’s Association reception during the National Restaurant Association event at Peninsula Hotel in Chicago. ASMI served Alaska weathervane scallop ceviche with avocado crema and Ikura to a guest list of 100 chefs, media representatives and suppliers.

Today’s Dietician Spring Symposium shares importance of sustainable seafood
ASMI sponsored a seafood lunch presentation to 350 registered dieticians attending Today’s Dietician Spring Symposium in Bonita Springs, Florida. The presentation covered sustainability, health benefits and functionality of seafood, as well as the Top 10 Trends in Seafood which included suggestions on how to reach consumers. ASMI’s booth distributed educational materials and received significant traffic and newsletter sign-ups.

Influencers Highlight Alaska Seafood Sustainability
This quarter, ASMI partnered with lifestyle and chef influencers and Alaska seafood ambassadors to share wild and sustainable Alaska seafood with their audiences. Check out the recent posts from celebrity chef Brooke Williamson (@chefbrookew) and TikTok influencer @KenaPeay who share their @AlaskaSeafood recipes and encourage their audiences to source seafood from Alaska to guarantee it is wild and sustainable.

Alaska Seafood welcomed at Thaifex 2022
Alaska Seafood was on display at Thaifex, Asia’s largest international food and beverage exhibition which welcomed 51,535 attendees from 111 countries. ASMI’s space, which included meeting areas, Alaska seafood display cases and a chef-prepared Thai inspired tastings, received heavy traffic from industry representatives and highly respected chefs. Trade leads from this highly successful event will be made available on Alaska Seafood Marketplace.

ASMI SOUTHEAST ASIA
Vietnamese culinary students receive technical training on Alaska seafood
ASMI Southeast Asia conducted two technical training sessions in Vietnam for 146 culinary students from Hoa Sua Culinary and Tourism College in Hanoi, and Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (HUTECH) in Ho Chi Minh City. The technical training included cooking demonstrations by top chefs who shared techniques on how to best prepare Alaska salmon and Alaska pollock. Following the training sessions, the students also participated in a young chef competition where students created their own Alaska seafood recipes and received prizes and ASMI giveaway items.

Alaska salmon served at annual Catalonia culinary competition
ASMI Southern Europe sponsored a cooking competition for aspiring chefs and servers attending higher education culinary and hospitality programs in Catalonia. The highly anticipated annual event took place in Manresa, Spain and included participation from 48 students representing 12 schools. ASMI contributed HG Alaska sockeye and smoked salmon fillets for the competition, and winners received Alaska Seafood branded prize packages.

Alaska Seafood GIFs get social
For the first time, Alaska seafood inspired GIFs were developed with the purpose of being used across all major social media and messaging platforms. The cute animated stickers are available on platforms including Instagram, Facebook and WhatsApp, where users can search the GIF section of the emoji menu by using the keywords ‘Alaska’, ‘Alaska Seafood’ or ‘Alaskaseafood’. Also available for download in the ASMI Media Library.
Along with the GIFs, ASMI Western Europe began pre-production of a 2023 Alaska seafood calendar featuring inspiring new recipes and stunning photography.

Canned wild Alaska salmon appears in print at the Platinum Jubilee
ASMI sponsored a full-color page advertisement in The Times’ weekend edition covering the Platinum Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II. The advertisement encouraged the inclusion of sustainably harvested Alaska salmon to elevate celebration menus and included fresh ideas for both adventurous and more traditional eaters across the United Kingdom. The Times is a British national newspaper and is the UK’s No. 1 daily title for reaching 40% of the senior group with an average readership of 1,200,000 readers per issue.

Alaska Seafood and US Consulate General in Barcelona celebrate start of summer
On June 20, US Consulate General in Barcelona, Katie Stans, and ASMI Southern Europe hosted a gastronomic event to celebrate the start of summer. The dining experience drew inspiration from the state of Alaska’s responsible and sustainable fishery management practices and guests were delighted with different varieties and preparations of wild Alaska seafood.

Dinner of Mujeres en Gastronomía (Women in Gastronomy) in La Patente, Spain
ASMI participated in a fundraising dinner called Mujeres en Gastronomía (Women in Gastronomy) which raised funds for L'Amanidor, a gastronomic space that works for the social and labor insertion of people with functional diversity. Attendees contributed food, drinks, and donations for the fundraiser.

ASMI partners with cruise lines to educate Alaska visitors
Alaska cruise passengers now have access to an increased menu of Alaska seafood and Alaska seafood promotional messaging on board several major cruise lines. ASMI is partnering with Holland America Line, Princess Cruises and Royal Caribbean to highlight the lines commitment to sourcing Alaska seafood and to create connections between guests and Alaska’s sustainable fisheries through videos and onboard programming so that they are inspired to #AskforAlaska seafood when they return home.
