Annual Commercial Fishing Photo Contest kicks off

ASMI's annual Commercial Fishing Photo Contest launches June 1. Categories this year include "Best catch," "The family that fishes together," "Best Scenic," and more. In addition to earning cash and/or prize packages, winning photos will be used in ASMI marketing activities around the world and shared with the Alaska seafood industry to promote Alaska seafood.

Trade Shows & Forums

ASMI participates in events and tradeshows to connect industry and facilitate sales of Alaska seafood around the world.


Continued results from Seafood Expo Global

Seafood Expo Global, the world’s largest seafood trade event, resumed in person April 27-29 for the first time since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. Held in Barcelona for the first time, attendees included more than 29,000 seafood industry professionals representing over 150 countries. ASMI organized and hosted the Alaska Seafood Pavilion and co-exhibited with 19 seafood companies with operations in Alaska.

Special events included the Alaska Seafood reception which highlighted the flavors and possibilities of Alaska seafood, and ‘Semana Salvaje’, a collaboration between ASMI and 12 highly respected restaurants in Barcelona in which special dishes and menus featuring Alaska seafood were served to guests from around the world.

Total reported onsite sales were over $54 million and 12 month projected sales from the show were $1.4 billion. For a list of the trade leads received at the show, please email


Wild Alaska press dinner celebrates Restaurant Week in Barcelona

ASMI Southern Europe hosted a press dinner on April 25, at Nobu Hotel and Restaurant to launch ‘Semana Salvaje’, a week-long collaboration with 11 prominent Barcelona restaurants featuring wild Alaska seafood. The event celebrated the return of Seafood Expo Global and provided traditional and digital media the opportunity to learn more about the qualities that differentiate wild Alaska seafood. Nobu’s chef, Sergio Martinez, and his team created a menu that highlighted Alaska coho, king and sockeye salmon, ikura, sablefish and Pacific cod.



HRI seminar builds relationships in Indonesia

ASMI SE Asia conducted an HRI seminar and menu promotion May 10-12 at the GAIA Hotel in Bandung, Indonesia which resulted in new trade contacts and strengthened relationships with Indonesian importers and distributors. The Agricultural Counselor of FAS Indonesia gave opening remarks to the 40 attendees, which included influencers, media, retailers, F&B leaders, importers, and seafood suppliers. The activity will continue with a two week Alaska Seafood menu promotion at the GAIA Hotel's Monomono Restaurant.



Alaska cod showcased at Young Talents Cup 

Young Talents Cup, a competition organized by one of the leading food publications in Austria, targets new generation chefs. ASMI sent Alaska Pacific cod and salmon roe for the competing chefs and five finalists created innovative dishes highlighting the product. Approximately 220 media and industry representatives attended the award ceremony.


Alaska Seafood a perfect partner at Global Plant Forward conference

The ASMI Domestic Foodservice staff attended the 2022 Global Plant Forward conference in Napa, CA on April 26-28th hosted by the Culinary Institute of America. Chefs and culinary innovators attended the conference to hear from industry experts and chefs from around the world on the topic of plant forward menus. ASMI provided Alaska salmon and sablefish, which was incorporated in meals as well as demos and culinary exercises. Alaska Seafood was presented as the perfect complement for plant forward menus.


Connecting with community at the Juneau Maritime Festival

On the first Saturday of May, ASMI sponsored the Juneau Maritime Festival, a celebration of Juneau’s rich maritime culture, history, and commerce held every year by the Juneau Economic Development Council. Along with sponsoring the event, ASMI staff from multiple programs attended the booth and shared ASMI materials and spoke with locals and tourists about Alaska seafood.

ASMI’s Natural, Wild Wellness campaign highlights delicious recipes that emphasize the health and nutrition benefits of consuming Alaska seafood.



TikTok influencer visits Alaska to learn, cook and spread the joy of Alaska seafood

As a part of an ongoing sustainability campaign to showcase the origin of Alaska seafood, ASMI recently welcomed culinary, travel and outdoors social media influencer Kena Peay to Juneau to experience first-hand how wild Alaska seafood is responsibly managed and harvested, and in turn, educate her engaged foodie audiences. During the trip, she met with industry members who shared their passion for wild Alaska seafood.

To date, Kena has published a cooking video of her preparing Alaska sablefish via TikTok and Instagram, along with additional content about her experience in Alaska.

Additional #AskForAlaska videos highlighting Alaska’s sustainable fishing practices will be published via Kena’s channels over the next two weeks.

Celebrity chef highlights Alaska salmon for National BBQ month

To drive broad awareness of sustainable seafood from Alaska, ASMI coordinated a Co-Op Satellite Media Tour for National BBQ Month featuring Food Network Star and Chef Tregaye Fraser. Alaska seafood, including salmon, is touted as the sustainable, flavorful showstopper this summer with Chef Tregaye sharing grilling tips. To-date, the tour has resulted in over a thousand broadcast placements with national and regional stations in markets such as Washington, DC, Oklahoma and Kentucky. Segments will continue to air throughout the month of May.

Nationwide release puts Alaska sustainability on the family menu in over 150 media outlets

ASMI’s consumer PR program coordinated a syndicated lifestyle release explaining Alaska's responsible fisheries management practices alongside simple and timely Alaska sablefish and cod recipes. The article was picked-up by more than 1,450 media outlets across the country including national sites like Yahoo!, as well as coveted regional press in top markets such as New York, California, Texas, Pennsylvania, Arizona, Georgia, Colorado, Washington, Minnesota and more. The article will continue to generate coverage online as well as in print outlets over the next month.

Chefs share why they choose Alaska in Restaurant Dive Magazine

ASMI worked with Restaurant Dive magazine on a sponsored content piece describing the sustainability and health benefits of menuing Alaska seafood. The article quotes ASMI Marketing Coordinator Leah Krafft, “More than ever, consumers are focused on health and immunity and seafood is the perfect protein to support those healthy diet goals.” Additionally, Chef Ann Kim of Young Joni and Sooki and Mimi describes how Alaska sole is the perfect complement to bold Korean flavors on her menus. The publication also shares how Chef Lee Wolen of Boka and GG’s Chicken Shop, prepares Alaska sockeye salmon sous vide and talks about the benefits of flash frozen seafood.



ASMI holds promotions around the world to boost retail sales and grow the Alaska seafood consumer base.


Lent 2022: ASMI & Harris Teeter

ASMI partnered with retailer Harris Teeter for another successful Lent promotion in 2022. Over the course of seven weeks, Harris Teeter featured Alaska products including salmon, halibut, and surimi seafood. Promotions included point of sale materials designed and provided by ASMI to enhance Alaska seafood displays, in addition to ads offering savings and showcasing the Alaska Seafood logo.


Lent 2022: ASMI & QFC

ASMI partnered with retailer QFC to promote Alaska whitefish, salmon, crab, and halibut during the 2022 Lenten season with advertised Alaska seafood at all store locations. ASMI also partnered with St. Michelle Wines to create displays in QFC seafood departments. QFC displayed and distributed Alaska Seafood recipe cards, point of sale materials, and sustainability and nutritional information in stores throughout Lent.

ASMI & Costco- Quick & Easy Recipe Video

ASMI partnered with Costco Wholesale to create a unique Alaska Cod Pachanga Tacos recipe and video, highlighting wild Alaska cod. The recipe video, featuring celebrity chef Randy Altig, was posted on Costco’s Facebook page and Instagram story targeting west coast regions and has over half a million views.
