IN THE SPOTLIGHT WITH: BIANCA GALLAGHER
Team Works Competitor of the Month
If you saw Bianca Gallagher in the supermarket aisle, you probably would not guess she was a mother of 2. The super sweet and bubbly blonde does not look a day over 23 but this super(fit!)mom managed a family, work, and prepping for her NPC Bikini stage debut! In 2014, this little lady hit the stage for three shows and is hoping to take the 2015 season by storm in her National debut. So how did she do it? Bianca attributes a lot of her success to planning and having a coach. “For me, planning is crucial.” She explains. “Constantly running around with kids and working part-time meant I had to always plan ahead. I would go to gym at 8 or 8:30 at night. It really helped to just have a plan so that when I stepped into the gym I could get in and get out. It helped to have someone, like Jennifer [Searles], who knows how to diet you down.” Before joining Team Works, Bianca proclaims she was a “cardio bunny” and an avid reader of Oxygen Magazine. “I would see these girls in the back in incredible shape! I was always so inspired by them but I thought “I could probably never do that!” you know? I had 2 kids, I was married and I worked. But it was always there in the back of my head.” Though Bianca was always relatively thin, when asked what her Fitness routine and eating plan looked like before joining Team Works she laughs. “I would try to eat healthy but my family is from Italy so my diet of course was very heavy in carbs! But as a Bikini competitor I eat a lot more! A lot of my cardio is cut as well, and I lift heavy! I am no longer just confined to the treadmill area.” A little over a year ago, Bianca decided to entertain the idea of competing and finally thought “If I don't do it now I am never going to!” After doing her own research she found her coach, Jennifer Searles, and started training with Team Works in February of 2014 competing in three shows soon after: NPC Northeast Summer Classic, NPC Eastern USA Championships and NPC New Jersey State Championships. Her placings for all three shows left her with a spot at nationals and a thirst for more. “I am definitely looking to get my pro card. I wouldn't be doing it if there wasn’t that bigger goal. I am motivated to try and take first in a show and compete nationally. Nab top 5.” In addition to the support she got from her coach, speaking to Bianca makes you realize that being part of a team of competitors is really more about being part of a family. “The hardest thing is the diet leading up to the last week and you question yourself so much but it was so nice to have that support and camaraderie. Being backstage [at Eastern’s] was the most fun I had!” Competing in Bikini has also sparked a larger interest in nutrition for Bianca, who has been considering getting her Registered Dietician’s license after learning more about the importance of proper nutrition. As Bianca looks forward to the 2015 season she leaves one nugget of advice: “Don’t compare yourself to people online. People are posting their best pictures. You’re seeing people's best. How people look on stage is not how they look day to day. Leading up to the show you’re on a very strict diet, you’re drinking no water, it’s very different from day to day life. And everybody's bodies are different. Everybody has a part that they're trying to work on. I’m in better shape now than I was then back in my 20s. You hit a certain age and you think things aren't feasible. I was worried about stepping on stage with girls who were 19, but I realized it doesn’t matter when you put in the right amount of work.”

Recipe of the Month
Crock Pot Buffalo Chicken Wraps
Ingredients for the chicken:
Ingredients for the wraps:
- 24 oz boneless skinless chicken breast
- 1 celery stalk
- 1/2 onion, diced
- 1 clove garlic
- 16 oz low sodium chicken broth
- 1/2 cup hot sauce
- large lettuce leaves, Bibb or Iceberg
- shredded carrots
- large celery stalks, cut into 2 inch matchsticks
In a crock pot, combine chicken, onions, celery stalk, garlic and broth (enough to cover your chicken, use water if the can of broth isn't enough). Cover and cook on high 4 hours.
Remove the chicken from pot, reserve 1/2 cup broth and discard the rest. Shred the chicken with two forks, return to the slow cooker with the 1/2 cup broth and the hot sauce and set on high for an additional 30 minutes. Makes approximately 3 cups chicken.
To prepare lettuce cups, place 1/2 cup buffalo chicken in each leaf, top with 1/4 cup shredded carrots and celery and eat!
