This year marks the 50th Anniversary of the first man landing on the moon. A small step for Eagle Scout Neil Armstrong, but a big step for mankind. It is also the 50th Anniversary of the 1969 National Jamboree. Yours truly attended that Jamboree in Idaho in 1969. The highlight of my Scouting experience was when we were assembled to watch the video of Neil Armstrong landing on the moon. Simultaneously I was able to look up at the moon in that clear Idaho sky knowing that Neil Armstrong was up there. A very powerful experience indeed.
The motto for the 1969 National Jamboree was “Building to Serve.” Troop 4 adopted the motto “Building to Serve” during my term as Scoutmaster. The San Diego Imperial Council adopted the motto during my years as President. I am equally hopeful our ESAA chapter will also adopt the motto “Building to Serve.”
The purpose of adopting the motto is to reinforce the ESAA commitment to support Scouts and the Council. You may ask how we intend to implement the commitment. Last month we talked about teamwork. This month the concept of teamwork graduates to include new partners. Selection of our new partners is explicitly designed to do service for others while enhancing the Scouting profile in our community, and supporting the Council.
Stay tuned to hear the results of our Board deliberations on the selection of potential new service partners.

The purpose of the San Diego - Imperial Council Eagle Scout Alumni Association (ESAA) is to support and enlarge the success of the Boy Scout movement and build fellowship among adult Eagles in San Diego and Imperial Counties. The ESAA achieves this purpose, by recruiting as many adult Eagle Scouts as possible to become Scouting volunteers, by supporting activities within the Council that promote the Scouts' advancement along the Trail to Eagle and by giving recognition to the young men who earn the rank of Eagle Scout.
