Hello Eagle Scouts,
Summertime is over and Scouts are back in school. For high school seniors, it is college application season and time to take a hard look at what they want and how appealing they are to colleges. While we know that strong grades, tough classes and high-test scores are vital to getting into the college of choice, what else will college admissions officers look for on a college application? Two things they will value highly are leadership and excellence. Scouting can provide both, especially through the process of becoming an Eagle Scout. I read in a recent Scouting newsletter a comment from an Ivy League admissions officer that the video the applicant sent in about their Eagle Scout project made all the difference in their application being accepted. It showed the Scout’s leadership and commitment to excellence in a uniquely visual way that was very compelling for the admissions officers. Eagle Scouts and Eagle Scout candidates need to realize the advantages they have and highlight them in a unique way. As an association, we need to reach out to Eagle Scouts and help mentor them through the college application process, letting them know how they can highlight showcase their Scouting experiences and what makes them special. Helping our Eagle Scouts reach their full potential is not only our job, it is our duty to help them become leaders in our society. Have a great fall and rest of the year.

The purpose of the San Diego - Imperial Council Eagle Scout Alumni Association (ESAA) is to support and enlarge the success of the Boy Scout movement and build fellowship among adult Eagles in San Diego and Imperial Counties. The ESAA achieves this purpose, by recruiting as many adult Eagle Scouts as possible to become Scouting volunteers, by supporting activities within the Council that promote the Scouts' advancement along the Trail to Eagle and by giving recognition to the young men who earn the rank of Eagle Scout.
