Hello Eagle Scouts,
Listening to our Outstanding Eagle Scout award recipients at our annual Gathering of Eagles dinner last month, I was reminded yet again of the incredible resources we have in our community and the amazing accomplishments of our adult Eagle Scouts. From fighter pilots (one who shot down the only MIGs flown by Russian pilots in our history) to a Pulitzer Prize winning political commentator, we have an amazing group of Eagle Scouts right here in San Diego. It also got me thinking, what are we doing to help our youth Eagle Scouts create their own paths of accomplishment once they move on from youth Scouting? Are we introducing them to new areas of study through the merit badge program? Do we encourage them to further their leadership training and skills through National Youth Leadership Training and Order of the Arrow? Do we make it an easy transition for them to become adult Scouters? One of our OESA recipients started a new Scout troop almost every time he was reassigned with the military. I counted 6 new troops that he started in six different cities in only a dozen years! That must be a record for a volunteer! We only need look in our backyards to find these types of outstanding examples of how to pay forward our Eagle Scout experiences. I for one am still looking for ways to give back though I know I’ll never be able to approach what I’ve been given in my Scouting experience.

The purpose of the San Diego - Imperial Council Eagle Scout Alumni Association (ESAA) is to support and enlarge the success of the Boy Scout movement and build fellowship among adult Eagles in San Diego and Imperial Counties. The ESAA achieves this purpose, by recruiting as many adult Eagle Scouts as possible to become Scouting volunteers, by supporting activities within the Council that promote the Scouts' advancement along the Trail to Eagle and by giving recognition to the young men who earn the rank of Eagle Scout.
